Since Canada has won a gold medal (:cool1:) Air Canada released a sale for flights to Florida and Vegas (20% off). It's good for travel in June and September but has to be booked by tomorrow.

There will likely be other sales, assuming we keep winning medals...but wanted to share that with the group!

It's a great deal! I just priced our August flights (no discount) $1637CDN all in.
If we were traveling in either June or August the exact same departures with the CANADAGOLD promo it's $1217CDN all in.

I wish our travel dates were flexible.. :(
But sadly not.

To get our vacation pkg at the awesome rate we got.. we have a narrow window - August only.

Just saw a tweet from WestJet.. they are matching Air Canada's promo - 20% off Florida & Vegas -- June 1-30 September 1-30... book till feb11/14
Love good old healthy competition. lol. Here are the codes...

Thank you! I just let my sister know. She is heading to Vegas in September.

Sounded like a good deal until I checked with jet blue from buffalo,,with AC or WJ from TO for one adult one child age 8 is $800, plus don't forget AC charges for each checked luggage. Jet blue was $480 and they have free bag check, easier customs,,didn't even check southwest yet. I am Canadian, but love flying buffalo.:dance3:

If it were $480 CDN it would be a great deal. But with the exchange rate of 10% today, plus the 3% that most banks, CCs or currency exchanges charge on top of that... it becomes more like $548CDN. Add on a night in a hotel pre flight with a week (or more) of parking at approx $129/$139US or $143/$153CDN plus a tank of gas at say $40/$50CDN. You are up to $743/$753 CDN. The savings are not as much as first appears.

So from the description of the sale on the AC site, it looks like sales might continue throughout the Olympics. The current sale excludes July and August and I need an August sale! C'mon Air Canada (or Westjet)... help me out here! Be nice!

Every time we medal there will be a new 24 hour deal! The higher the medal level, the higher the discount :). After today's 2 new medals there should be another deal...

Westjet's deal isn't as good as AC's deal. I'm only getting a 10% discount with WJ and the price is almost $100 higher.

That's just for 2 people,,we travel with 4, don't stay overnight before and park for 6bucks per day, lot cheaper then parking at Pearson. In addition have a us$ account so no worries about the exchange. As far as tank of gas, well worth the money when you factor in not having to wait at customs at Pearson, the great small airport in Buffalo. The better service on both Jet Blue and Southwest. They have won my dollars until AC or WJ gets their act in gear.

10%?? Try 14% ..ouch

It's the government that needs to get their hand out of the pot!!! The base fares are reasonable enough it's the taxes on top that kill!!

So true!! I priced a Sunwing flight over the weekend to a sun destination... the flight was $285. The taxes & service charges were $327!

Just priced Jetblue for our dates in August. (again) It would be $1774US for the three of us - direct/return. That works out to $2010CDN at today's exchange rate :(
I can do Air Canada or Westjet for $1635CDN same dates direct/return.

Longing for the days of a CDN dollar at or above par... (or a really good seat sale on either side of the border) ;)

Ooooh, thanks for posting!

What an excellent promotion...just need it for October..with Westjet(prefer their flight times). Will keep an eye out. Right now flying from Pearson on Westjet is $1050 for two of us.

Thought about Buffalo but Southwest doesn't have October out yet and Jet Blue would be $882.00 before exchange and parking and the flight is at 8am which is too early for us without staying the night. (This is of course cause I prefer to fly nonstop). /lesigh

I prefer to fly out of Buffalo as well. We just booked on 02/03 with JetBlue and it cost for 2, roundtrip $470.00 US, my capital one charged $535 CDN but still worth it. If we flew from Toronto it would've been about $1000 plus the week of parking which I believe is around $180. We park in preferred in Buffalo and pay $75 for the week and don't spend the night. For us to drive to Buffalo its about 30 mins longer then to get to Pearson but to for the savings we will do it anytime.

I think the key with booking with JetBlue & SW is to know when to book. I say day seats are released or when sales are available. I booked our flight the day JetBlue released the dates, didn't want to wait till March for SW, & paid $126 down with a stopover in Boston & $109 back, direct flight. I checked 3 or 4 days later & the cost went up to $616 & I checked again on Sunday & it went up to around $750.

Just to add, we leave in 29 days for the week, I waited for the southwest sale, 4 people 929us. That was when dollar was par, so I didn't dip into my US funds. We will be going again in late Sept, so the sales are usually late may june, if the dollar is close then use my Can MC if not use my US funds.
As far as the base prices, that's great but you still have to factor in all those taxes.:crazy2:

I agree with the taxes thing. When looking at flights from Pearson or even Hamilton the taxes were the amount, if not more, then 1 ticket on JetBlue or Southwest. It's ridiculous how much the taxes are. Just another reason why it's worth it to drive to Buffalo.
