I could strangle my child....

I understand. We have the ability to check grades on-line. I have to stay on top of my 7th grader. I didn't. I skipped about 2 weeks. He has about 16 missing assignments, when you add all 7 classes together. :scared1: Going to be a fun weekend.

I can see you share my pain. We also have online access and I knew something like this was coming, but it is still extremely annoying. Something is going on with her and I don't know what.:confused3

It's always the teacher's fault...;)

My DD is always shocked when I side with the teacher and leave her hanging to take repsonsibility for herself.

I know the interim well.

I feel your pain. This year (8th grade) has been a struggle for both DS and I.

A struggle for him in getting his work turned in on time and a struggle for me not to hurt him. ;)

That's it!!!!!

I knew there was someone to blame. ;)

Too bad my poor baby got seven of the worst teachers in the universe and they are all out to get her. :headache:

Seriously though, she doesn't even try to come up with an excuse. She just doesn't do her work. Period.

I rant; I rave; I threaten. Nothing.

I should mention that this is a fairly new phenomenon. Last semester she was doing fine. :confused3

Must be the age! My DD12 is in 7th grade and I'm ready to strangle her, too. It's the same as with y'all's, she won't do her work and, if she does, she doesn't turn it in! Crazy!

This, I mean I just don't get it. I understand not doing it, you know teens and pre teens, they have a life, they can't be bothered. (sarcasm people), but I do understand, yes they get into trouble but again, I understand.

What I don't, can't and won't understand is doing the darn homework and not turning it in. I mean who does that? Oh yeah, my kid has. What a moron, yep that is my kid I am calling a moron.

FWIW, he always comes home with AB honor roll in advanced classes, somehow he pulls it off, but I have to yell a lot.

Yup, mine is 12 in 7th grade.

She is a very bright child (really, not just because she's mine) and I just don't get it. :confused3

What grade is she in? I would talk to her and make sure everything else is ok, and figure out where the issue lies.

Other than saying this is fairly typical this time of year for a lot of middle schoolers, they get that end of year/beginning of spring itch~ a lot of times things get better after a spring break. They just seem to get burned out.

I know for my DD13, she's in 8th grade and has always worked hard and done well, and this year, she has just gotten WAY too social, so we are trying to balance that out more and get her back on track.

Middle school is

yeah well, DS(13) is in 7th but last year I started calling the phenomenon "6th Grade Boy Brain" . The idea of doing the work and then not turning it in is baffling. Now in 7th, it seems like 6th grade boy brain doesn't magically go away.

Me: Do you have any tests this week?
DS: Not sure
Me: Huh? Not sure? Online says you do.
DS: Well none of the teachers told us anything... (alright then)

Apparently teachers assign work, directions and test and don't tell the students at my kids school. ;)

I've talked to DS's teacher a lot this year  and they've both said in their years of teaching, their experience has been 8th grade is either a great year or a horrible year for kids.

They said there really is no in-between, for some reason. I'm hoping we got the "horrible" out of the way this year and won't have to worry about it in high school.

Is that hoping for too much? :rolleyes1

:rotfl:I totally understand. I guess they do the same at ours. ;) It must be something they teach at "teacher school".

Me too:mad: we can see online we knew it was coming:sad2:

10th grade and it is had been like this for a bit.

I really love it when you go talk to the teachers and they say...
"Oh, its normal. Its very common in Middle School..There is so much going on with hormones and everything. Getting a C is fine."

Yeah... Thanks.

Yeah... Thanks.

Apparently a C is not fine. DD got a C in English and her teacher marked off the box that said "failing grade". :confused3

Of course she did actually fail another class.

Thanks God these things are not the final grades. She still has time to bring them up. The problem is she is completely uninterested in bringing them up.

What can I do?

My 11 year 5th grader is advanced and already doing this. We have stayed with him every step to avoid bad grades. But how can you possibly forget to put your name on your paper. Right now this is hte only reson he can get a bad grade. We have 1 teacher willing to take off points for this but the others say they know its him and its ok. No its not ok.

This sounds just like the conversations in my house. How hard is it to turn in the work after you've done it. :confused3

My DD has been grounded when I found her grades to be unacceptable. :confused3

My son did the exact opposite...wallowed in elementary and came to his own FINALLY in middle school. :confused3 I dreaded those three years but they turned out to be the best of his school years.

Besides the stress, high school has been the best. You'd never believe it's the same kid from elementary! :cloud9:
