Ages for riding in one of the 4-person "paddle boats" at CC?

I was hoping to rent one of the 4-person paddle boats (or peddle boats from what it looks like in the pictures) at CC, but it says on the website that the ages are 5 and up. Is that to ride in one as well? I see from the pictures that there's a seat belt, so I was thinking of putting a life jacket on the 16 month old and putting the seat belt on her and also sitting on the same side as her (with her in her own seat) while my husband peddled on the other side. But again, it says 5 and up. Is that to ride in one by yourself, or is that to even get on the peddle boat at all? Ideally, I'd like to sit on the same side as him and help peddle with her in my lap, but I'm assuming that's DEFINITELY out of the question, right?!

I'm sure you're right. Not that I'm going to willingly break the rules (so please don't kill me for asking, because I know that there are lots of die-hard rule followers here who jump on anyone who asks about breaking the rules, and that's fine, but I'm just trying to get information), but how strict are they on the age requirement? Again, I'm not saying that I'm going to try to do it - just asking if that's something that they're real sticklers about, or rather something that they put on the website that isn't followed at all?

AFAIK, for excursions the ages are set in stone. You must be the correct age. the DCL site will not even let you book someone for an excursion if they are not the right age.

It says on the website that these boats are first come, first serve and cannot be reserved in advance, which is why I'm wondering if it's at least a tiny bit possible.

Perhaps you could post this question on one of the upcoming cruise meets threads and someone might be able to ask the question for you either onboard at the Port Excursions desk or at Marge's Barges on CC.

You could also call DCL to see what their answer is.

Keep in mind that CC is an extension of the ship and the age requirements for excursions will be the same whether it's something that can be booked in advance or in person.

I called DCL to ask a very similar question a few weeks ago! I was actually wondering about the sting ray excursion on CC, but I didn't specify. I told the representative on the phone that my son was going to be two months short of his 5th birthday on the cruise, and asked if any of the excursions for 5+ would be available to him if his parents were both there. "How close to 5 do you have to be to go on them?" She said they watch it TO THE DAY.

Now, you can certainly call DCL and see, or ask when you get there, but she said it is for legal/insurance purposes and they are extremely strict with ages for all the CC excursions.

Bummer.

I have done this excursion and can tell you that if there is any wind peddling this thing is a pain in the you know what. Secondly the water does get deep if the tide is in ....with that said I would not bring a baby( even with a life jacket on) out there just on the what if something went wrong and all of you ended up in the water. I am a scuba diver and excellent swimmer and I would never even consider taking a baby on this excursion even if they let me.

I believe these are not the same things as excursions, I'm pretty sure someone in your family can just go rent it, then your family can all jump in and go.

However, if they see a small child, some Disney staff or lifeguard may call you in and possibly confiscate your rental.


Having said that, I also would not choose to bring a small baby like that on this type of a device. If something does happen, and if all of you (or even just the baby) end up in the water, the baby could be seriously injured or even die. Babies don't understand holding their breath when they hit the water. If the baby falls in the water, if would probably instinctively gasp for air to cry, and could fill it's lungs with water. I'm not lecturing you on how to raise your child, and I'm not judging you, I'm just hoping that you'll think about the seriousness of the consequences if the baby falls out. Also, keep in mind, the seatbelt will probably be too big to even work for a child that size.

Yes. I know, it was quick! LOL! But, we're very excited! The cruise isn't until fall 2013, but we're planners and we're very anxious to introduce our daughter to Disney cruising! I hope she's as well behaved as your son was on the cruise last year! He was such a cutie!

Thank you for asking this, I was wondering it myself. I wish the boats had a height instead of age requirement (cause the whole issue is whether or not the child can be secured in the seat, right?) My son is 4 and is big, 90th percentile for height for his age. He could easily fit anywhere a 5 year old could, but since he's not 5 he won't be able to ride in the paddle boats. This is not a deal breaker or anything, just a slight disappointment.
