What do you think the average age of first-time grandparents is in the USA? I will post the answer after a few responses.:hippie:

I'm going to guess 53...... I think a lot of folks are waiting to have kids a little later.....

I am going to say closer to 40. With the high teen pregnancy rate in many parts of the country and that cycle continuing, it will bring down the average from what most people would suspect. That would put a 20 year old having a baby and that baby having a baby at 20.

I say 51, because that's how old I am and I'll be a first-time grandma in less than 2 weeks!

I´d say 43 for women 45 for men.

I was 40.

I got married and had my eldest DD at 20 and she did the same.

When she asked me what I wanted the baby to call her, I said, "How about Aunt Tammy?" :lmao:

According to census info the average age is 47. I was 35 and had my last chid at 37. There is a 19 year difference in age between my oldest and youngest kids.

I am going to make a guess of 37.

My dh found out he had a dd when he turned 40 and she came with kids making us grandparents of 3 now.

I hope my mum doesn't see this thread! She is 56 and still waiting (very impatiently) lol. In fairness, she had me at 33 though!

My dad was 45. He was 17 when I was born and I was 27 when I had my boys. Now my grandmother was 32!!! She was 17 when she had my dad and he was 15 when my brother was born.

I think it depends on where you live. To my knowledge, there are no pregnant high school kids, and many here wait until their late 30's to start a family. There are far more older women having babies than teens.

47! Wow, I was going to guess 55.

My DH and I are expecting the first grandchild on both sides of the family, and our parents are all way older than average. My mom and dad will both be 59 when the baby is born, and I think his parents will be be between 59 and 62.

I have a classmate that become a grandma at 34. :scared1:

She also had her first child when she was 15 and that child had her first when she was 18.
