Hey everyone! It’s our first family trip to Disneyworld (Dec 16-26).
We’re used to Disneyland and being able to walk back to the hotel for an afternoon break (we have a 2.5 year old and an 8 year old)

this time we will be driving and parking every park day, and it’s about a 15-20 minute drive to our resort. With the extended hours just announced we don’t think the little guy will last all day and need some downtime

Can we leave and come back easily? Will we have a hard time finding parking? Will we be charged for parking again?

Which resort are you staying at? You get free parking at all of the parks for the length of your stay if you are at a Disney resort hotel (they scan your magic band at the parking entry booth, IIRC). That being said, if you are offsite and have to purchase a parking pass for each park/day, it is good for the whole day.

also different from Disneyland Magic Kingdom you will have to take Disney transportation from parking lot to gate. you can not walk from parking lot. at MK you will need to allow 20 minutes to get from park to your car and that does not allow for drive to your resort. are yo going to be able to keep young one awake or will he go back to sleep. been years but our worst day was day we tried to go back to resort for nap with 18 month old who fell asleep on way and then ended up with just a 15 minute nap and screamed for 2 hours

So far the parking lot trams are not moving so you could have a long walk back & forth . Hoping they will bring the castmembers back soon.
Another thing to consider is the traffic flow driving off property and back up at the turnstiles.
Personally I would not recommend leaving during the holidays .
