Given that AK closes at 7:00 (June), is it worth trying to take an afternoon break from say 12-4, to try and avoid the heat, or no? Staying off-site, roughly 10-12 minutes away.
I never think it's worth it to take an afternoon break from AK, and we plan a break every other day. We like to do dinner at Boma after AK, so we'll plan to be at the park from 9-4ish, then have an early dinner around 5. If you want to be in the park until closing, you could plan a TS lunch and the shows for the afternoon to get out of the heat.
An afternoon break is not really worth it for AK due to the limited park hours and no evening entertainment to come back for. As stated by Ava, the best course of action is to make a lunch ADR at an AK restaurant and spend the early afternoon doing the shows, most of the shows are indoors and air conditioned so this will keep you out of the heat.. Plan to see the outdoor attractions (such as trails and EE) in the morning and/or evening to avoid being in the bare sun during the hottest part of the day..
I may be one that disagrees with other statements. We often take an afternoon break when we go in the summer. We will be there at rope drop, go till lunch, leave, then come back around 3:30ish. If we stay, we only last till about 2 and we are done.
