Next week while at DL, we'll have one free afternoon and would like to take our kids to experience the beach/ocean. Which would be better, Newport Beach or Hunnington Beach. Also, for either one of those, is there a certain place to go that is best (i.e. parking, accessibility, etc.)?

I would go to Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point. It is nicer and prettier than Newport or Huntington. If you had to choose between those 2 though, definately Newport.

We spent the afternoon at Newport Beach last October on our trip. Our kids had so much fun, as much fun at the beach as in Disneyland. We also enjoyed walking on the Newport boardwalk eating corn dogs and drinking fresh squeezed lemonade.

Newport the water is clear and shallow, good for kids. HB is full of waves. Both piers are nice though. HB is more tourist attractions and things of that sort. Newport has the fishing boats that come in early in the morning and you can buy some.

I was wondering whether to do this for one afternoon of our trip, but we won't be driving (we are from the UK and not keen). Would you say that Newport was OK to get around on foot if we managed to get a limo or taxi to drop us and pick us up?

While from the USA, I am traveling on business in Europe at the moment (in Barcelona today and tomorrow in Paris). So hello from Spain to the UK. :cool2:

I would say Newport is the way to go if you want to try this. A taxi will be a bit expensive as the distance is perhaps 30 km from DLR. But if you get dropped off near the pier you can walk the boardwalk and go to the beach easily on foot. We are talking about 200-300 meters from the taxi to the water. There are lots of fun things (for example Balboa Island) and restaurants and shops. You should be able to find out more thru a Google search. Have fun.

Trey - hello from the UK to Paris! Thanks for the info, sounds like Newport is the way to go. :thumbsup2
