So sad, but found out this week that my brothers family can't come with us in August due to it just being too expensive. This comes after my best friend and family pulled out last month for same reason. They have both been with us before. There were meant to be 15 of us and now its down to the three of us. We will still have a great time and have been many times on our own but just so sad that after all the planning that they can't come.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Feel really bad for my two nieces who came with us a couple of years ago and we had such a great time. I had booked the Mary Poppins breakfast and Princess Meal at the Grand Floridian and they knew I had. We had been planning all the rides and where we were going to go each day. I really wish they had never been told they were going.
Also, just wont be able to talk about our holiday with all of them now as will feel too guilty.
I know its a "First World Problem" not being able to go to Florida but my brother and best friend work so hard, its just a shame.

I cheered myself up by booking our Discovery Cove tickets!

Sorry to hear your group plan has fallen apart, but to tell the truth if they hadn't booked anything by now I would have been worried - especially the flights. Until they are booked I can't plan anything.

It is a shame the children have been told and am sure they are really disappointed, hopefully you can cheer them up by bringing them back a little present :) I do sympathise with the cost, the current exchange rates are making our daily budget allowance tight and it seems increasingly expensive to eat nowadays at the parks. Hopefully you will all get to go again another year.

I never share plans with my children unless I know I can deliver. We had a similar experience years ago with Disneyland Paris; family members had said they would come and then pulled out. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time but it's disappointing when you had planned a trip with extended family xx

Agree that sharing plans with kids until committed is a bad idea. Is there a possibility that the kids could join you?

I don't know how old the kids are, but several years ago, just after I graduated, the inlaws went to WDW. I couldn't afford to pay for all of us to go, so paid for my 2 boys to go.

I got a lot of people saying "OH, I can't believe you would let your kids be away from you at Xmas!". Well, 1. they were with grandparents, and 2. they were in Florida.
I knew I'd made the right decision during the phone call on Xmas day when the conversation with the youngests consisted of:
"Hi, I got 18 presents, now I'm going in the pool. Byyyyeeeeeeeeeee!" (phone handed back to grandparents, running footsteps and splash).

Happened to us too! We planned a big trip for August, then we had 3 people drop out, still 8 of us as it stands so not too disastrous but not what we originally thought. Although I agree with others it will still be a great trip!

Unfortunately no way the could come with us for the three weeks. Would have to be on the same flight as us, Direct with Virgn, PE on the way back. For the two of them the flight is more than what it was for the four of them to go indirect so unless I was paying it would still be too expensive. Such a shame as I had found them indirect flights for £402 with Last Minute for two weeks from 18th. We go on 11th. Also they are only 8 so its alot of responsibility.
We'll still have a great time, just dont have anyone to talk to about it now. Booked our Discovery Cove tickets and night at Portifino Bay for Universal Express. Not stayed there before. Was trying to keep cost down by staying at RPH but now can try somewhere new as stayed at the other two hotels before. I will bring them back something big. Also taking them to see Cinderella this week which was pre planned but now I am thinking that it will just remind them they aren't going.
Anyway, least I have these boards to discuss!

It's so sad when children are told, and then they don't get to go! Can ypur brother not take them to disney paris for a couple of days!
I know that being military cancellation of a trip is always a chance and one we have had to cash in twice, so we try our best not to tell the kids,
However there have beenough two times where we have moved the trip by a good few months,
And had to cancel a disney cruise...
