Afraid of loud noises like fireworks

My 6 year old is fearless in most respects, but is terrified of loud noises.

On the recommendation of someone here, I just ordered her a pair of Peltor Jr Noise reducing earmuffs:

"Peltor/AOSafety Junior Ear Muffs (NRR 22)
Specifically designed for children and smaller adults
See/Order All Our Children's Ear Muffs...

Peltor/AOSafety Junior Ear Muffs are specifically designed to be lightweight and comfortable enough for kids, and they are even comfortable enough for a baby, making Peltor/AOSafety Junior Muffs the ideal choice for kids from babies through teens.

With NRR 22 protection in a low-profile muff, the Junior Muff is just right for concerts, races, shooting and other general noise protection. With muffs you do not have to worry about getting a good fit or the plugs falling out when you are not looking.

Another benefit to Junior Muffs is that they don't pose a choking hazard, as earplugs sometimes can when used by very young, unsupervised children. "

I got them in pink (I could also have chosen blue or black) from amazon.com for $19.99

Just thought I would pass the info on.

I think most of the people is afraid with the loud noise of the fireworks, i am also afraid. The firework is also dangerous too. The noise of the firework is so loud so its create the problem in ears and hear also..

Those are the ones we have, and we love them! We bought them for going to races with the big kids and didn't take them on our first trip to Disney. BIG mistake - DD(then)4 was terrified of everything from fireworks to Philharmagic! The swim ear plugs that we picked up at the resort gift shop worked okay in a pinch, but they're so much more hassle to get in/out, and we learned our lesson about leaving the ear muffs at home. I'm not waiting for the baby to be scared - we've already gotten her a pair and we're planning on using them right from the start.

My son used ear protectors on our last trip. He hates loud noises. Even some of the rides he wore them. I was so glad I thought of getting them.

I'm the one who suggested the Peltor headphones to you! The muffs have changed my daughter's life. She doesn't have to worry about covering her ears with her hands (she wore them on EE, and was thrilled to have her arms up in the air during the whole ride! :lmao: ) She managed to wear the muffs AND her Minnie Mouse ears at the same time when we were at the parks. :rotfl:

Sounds great :thumbsup2

Just to let others know though, Wishes is not loud at all. The fireworks are set off pretty far from the MK and you really don't hear them at all. You only hear the musical score/narration.

Now, the fireworks in Epcot and DHS are much louder, but still not as bad as at our local displays. Some kids are probably still scared, but the Disney fireworks are nowhere near as loud as you would think.

I have to disagree; the "shooting stars" are loud during wishes. We were right in front of the train station to watch wishes, and my daughter was reaching for her headphones within the first minute of the fireworks starting.

I think that depends on where you are standing. My DD has never been scared of fireworks. We actually happened to be back in fantasyland one night when wishes started and it was LOUD. Even though DD was expecting fireworks to start and it wasn't a surprise, she started freaking out that it was too loud and begging to go inside somewhere.

I actually just got the same ones for my 5 year old for our trip in 2 weeks. He is always terrified on the Fourth of July and since we are going to a special show at Epcot with the Illuminations Fireworks afterwards I didn't want to have to take him somewhere else to escape the noise. Now I'm looking forward to the fireworks at Disney and on July 4th!! :cheer2:

I'm guessing "loud" is in the ears of the beholder.

Last year, she was so terrified at Epcot that my husband scooped her up and brought her into the Kidspot at the Norway pavillion-- inside, where the doors closed and the noise was muffled.

We won't even talk about Fantasmic, except to say that it's another show she didn't get through. (Thankfully my husband had seen all the shows when he chaperoned the Senior trip and didn't mind missing them last year.)

Thankfully, she was so exhausted for Wishes that she slept through that show, out cold in a stroller in the middle of Main Street. She did jump when some of the louder noises penetrated her sleep, but the rest of us enjoyed the show together.
