affordable hotel in NYC

My daughter is going to be attending The Joffrey Ballet Summer Intesive this summer so I am looking for an affordable way to stay in NYC for just over two weeks. Does anyone who lives there or travels there often have any good suggestions. I wish that staying in a nice hotel in Time Square was an options but financially it is a deal breaker. We need a nice, safe place maily to sleep and shower. Any leads would be wonderful.

Do not use Hotel at Times Square, I called and canceled on Thursday for tonight and they JUST charged by card.

Your daughter must be thrilled! I would contact the Joffrey Ballet and ask them for housing suggestions, I'm sure they have a list of safe, clean places to stay.

Thank you, she is and we are very proud of her. She works very hard at it.

They do send out a list but I am afraid that if I wait there won't be anything affordable left.

I don't have any specific recommendations, but I would highly suggest getting an apartment with a kitchen so you can cook some of your meals. Eating out 3 meals a day for 2 weeks will get very expensive.
