[ADVISORY] WDW - MagicBand-Only Testing Begins at Disney's Pop Century Resort

Forget about them. you just need to realize that DISers have been burned and trolled by supposed insiders passing on "internal" information that was faked, etc. So any new poster with supposed insider info is looked at very closely.

Would that be the infamous thread early this year started by the "Poster who shall not be named"?

I think it's more likely that they will go in order of the resorts that first started with the Magicbands. Pop was one of the first I believe. However that remains to be seen until they add the second resort to this new development.

Or maybe they just flip a coin :rotfl2:

I'm arriving Friday with my son and granddaughter for my sixth stay at Pop since May 2010. We love the resort and all of the staff there. We are going at a slow time, so will stick with Pop. I do, however, have several observations.
1. This has not been announced by Disney to arriving guests. They seem to be planning to let it be a surprise. Kind of pixie dust in reverse.
2. It feels very arbitrary for Pop guests to be the only ones stripped of FP- with no recourse. Perhaps the next phase will only be men, or guests from New Jersey.
3. This changes the trip that was paid for well in advance. Testing is important but so is informed consent. Thanks to this board, we'll know how to cope. I feel for those who simply arrive and find that they get less than all the other resort guests at WDW.

Spot on!

And I have to say I just had to laugh at "pixie dust in reverse". :rotfl2: Is this the future of Disney?

I agree and I should probably be having a hissy about now, but I'm agreeing with someone on another thread (I think, Pianogirl or Arwen) who thinks that this change will be in affect at all resorts by Christmas. Given the crowds during December they have to do something or the parks will be a mess. This gives me parameters I can work within.

Me too. I think this will all be online by holiday time. I don't think they want another "Columbus day" at Christmas.

Ok, not being a Pollyanna here at all, but when FP+ came online it was a few resorts at a time. So for a short period of time those resorts had an advantage that they could pull FP+ AND FP-. Stating now that it is unfair that they took away the advantage that these resorts had in the beginning doesn't work.

Why would it matter to current guests at Pop what guests got there a few months ago?

Because unless they started FP+ at all resorts all at once and then reversed, you're going to have levels of advantage. I get that. I don't agree with the way they started this, nor the way they're continuing it but logic dictates that someone had to be at an advantage or disadvantage at some point.

And for all the people who say this doesn't affect anything? Wait til they get to YOUR resort. Or take FP- away completely. Work within those parameters and then get back to me.

And as for this part...this what I just don't get on Disney's part. Why basically "reward" those who are uninformed or those who don't care one way or the other with 3 FP+ while alienating/making worse the FP situation for those die-hards who do care? I don't get it.

I know...I know...making it better for the masses, blah blah blah. But again...those people didn't know/didn't care. While those who do are PO'd and talking about canceling or postponing trips. I guess I don't understand the logic.

Probably because the uninformed are more likely to spend money. The diehards already have their souvenirs and all the other crappy merchandise they try to push. Also someone taking a once in a lifetime vacation(not planning on coming back) are probably a little looser with their wallet if they have the means. Disney is banking on that for every loyal customer they lose there is one willing to spend more money taking their place

You think they want this type of backlash from their Deluxe resort guests this early?

There might be truth to that, but more likely they just want as many people off the paper tickets as early as possible, and that means converting the larger resorts first. And that means doing the budget ones with moderates next and deluxes last.

We will be there for 10 days beginning Dec 27th. It'll be interesting... :) In particular, we will be at HS early one day, at rope drop. Just about the ENTIRE rope drop crowd literally RUNS to TSM to get fast passes and/or get in line for the ride as soon as the cast members drop that rope. I wonder if there will be angry people when they get to the machine and realize that they can't get a paper FP?

This is something that is puzzling me. Will they ever let these people know? Anyone checking in can be told by the front desk but what about those people who are already there?

Could this be the fabled "Pixie Dust Fart" pixiedust::tinker: we've been hearing about lately? :rotfl2:

People who already checked in will have the cards with stripes already...only people checking in after tomorrow will supposedly get the stripeless cards (if opting out of bands). I don't think they are suddenly going to disable cards that are already active.

We're staying 11/14 - 11/20. I just called Reservations and tried to change resorts because of this and they say they have NO openings at any other value or Moderate for our stay. NONE

What is going on? This is supposed to be a slow time?

He also pulled up the announcement on the CM HUB and confirmed that POP will ONLY receive Magic Bands during this period.

My hands are tied. We leave tomorrow. There's nothing for it but to go and make the best of it.

You know how they say "the things you worry about most usually never even happen". Well, this is the one that did happen. Of all the rotten luck.

Especially when they may or may not have disabled ones that haven't been in use for years.

I literally just did a search on WaltDisneyWorld.com, and there are plenty of rooms available. That CM didn't now what they were talking about.

So did my husband? Should I try to modify the reservation online instead of calling? Can you even do that??
