Hey all! I am starting the college program in August and was interesting in joining the vacation club (I heard I might even get a discount!) I am trying to get my dad to fully agree to it and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what I could do to persuade him! We are a long time Disney going family and have been going every year or every other year since I have been around (21 years!) He just doesn't understand//believe me that it will save me money in the long run, as I will be going just about every year as well. Advice? Tips?

Thanks!!

I don't think students in the College Program are eligible for a discount to purchase DVC. In fact, I will give you the same advice I gave my own daughter. She wanted for a very long time to become a member on her own. She took my advice, she finished college (a Master's degree) got herself tenured as a teacher, and then made her purchase.

Once you have some full time job experience under your belt, you will be in a better position to purchase DVC. Good luck! :)

I also don't think you will get a discount, but I could be wrong. If so, is it a huge discount? Do you have about $18,000 plus to buy into DVC? If you need to finance, now might not be the best time to purchase DVC, not to mention you might not qualify for the financing.

DVC is a wonderful purchase, just make sure it is the best time to make that purchase.

I have actually been told that it is possible to get 15% off the price of points for being in the DCP. And also I guess I didn't explain it well enough, but it would be a family purchase not just by myself! But thank you for the responses!

Ah, now that makes a difference. If you are a family who visits WDW once a year and usually stays at a deluxe resort, then purchasing DVC would (for the most part) be a financial benefit for the long term. When talking it over with the family don't forget that you will need to pay annual maintenance fees on your purchase. I would do some calculations with the DVC point charts (which are located above) to see how many points you would need and what resort you would be interested in buying. Then find out the maintenance fees. Then look at the price of purchasing directly through Disney and compare to purchasing resale. This would give you a good start for how much $$ you need to talk your Dad into!!!
