We are planning an extended family trip to DW in November. My in-laws are taking their 5th wheel and camping at FW campgrounds. They are only staying 3 days. We are staying a week and were going to stay in a cabin at FW then transfer to OKW 1BR Villa. I am not thrilled about transferring resorts mid-week with a preschooler and a toddler, but don't want to stay at FW the whole time. I am considering staying at WL 1 BR villa the whole week instead of going between 2 resorts.
My questions are: Would that be a big hassle to get to FW from WL to see them and take part in activities? Is there a DIRECT boat ride over? How long could I expect the wait to be? My thinking is it sounds like the FW campgrounds are so big that we may not be near each other anyway. Am I accurate? I have never stayed on-site and have no idea what the size of the resorts and transportation is like. What would all of you do???Thanks!

I would stay at VWL for the whole time, if I were you. There is a direct boat that goes from WL to FW to the CR. You would most likely not be near each other, as the camping loops are separate from the cabin loops, for the most part.

It's very easy to go between FW & WL. They share the MK boat, plus, there is a small boat that does nothing but circle CR/FW/WL all day long. I'm not certain, but I believe there is a bus option, as well.

The lodge is wonderful, especially for young families! I'd just stay there the whole time!!

Yup, your cabin would not be near the camper, anyhow. We were given a FW map when we checked into WL. The cabins are set apart from the camper areas.

Another thought, you can also stay at CR. Again, the boat goes CR/FW/WL (any order) so you'd beable to access FW easily.

CR & WL are my fav resorts. We, too, have a young child, and it's so nice being so close to MK.

Me again! Just wondering how far the boat launch at FW from the campsites and/or major activities at FW, such as the Chip and Dale campfire is? Thank for all of your help already!

No problem! Glad to help where I can.

I'd ask this question over on the camping brd. I'm sure you'll get better answers.

We took the boat from WL to FW serveral times to go to Trails End or the petting zoo. They, plus the store/gift shop are located very close to the dock. (Along with HoopDeeDoo, Mickeys BBQ, and the beach/playground.) To get to the campfire, you need to take FW's internal bus (the orange ones, only go w/in FW). We never did, so I can't comment on how far.

Many campers rent FW's golf carts so they can scoot around. (I'm pretty sure that you can only park you car at your site or cabin. You can't park them at the dock.) I believe they rent for $35 per day. Perhaps your IL's would be interested in renting one. Then they could just pick you up.

I guess you'll need to think about exactly where you'll be spending your time with the IL's. If you're going to parks together, you could just meet at the enterance.

But ask over on the camping brd. They'll be able to help you more.

Enjoy!

One more thing - there is a paved path/bike trail between WL & FW. It's about a mile long. You can rent bikes at WL (regular, dbl, and surry) and bike over. The path is not lite, so be back before dark!

We stayed at WL and my Mother and Step father stayed at FW in their motorhome. It worked out great. The boat rides back and forth are easy and fun. They also drove over a couple of times and were allowed to park (their Jeep, not RV) at WL. Sometimes we would meet in front of the park we were going to that day and sometimes they would come all the way to WL and we would leave from there.

One note about FW if you do end up there. It is very spread out. They have golf carts that you can rent that makes getting around much easier that you might want to consider.
