Advice please....

Hello - my husband and i are taking our two young children (Miles - 2yrs and Abby - 9 mths) to Disneyworld for a week on 9th November. It's the first time to Disney for me, Miles and Abby but my husband went as a child many times. We were looking for any kind of advice or tips. We are staying in the All-stars Movies hotel and would love any feedback on it. We are all veggies, any recommendations on where to eat much appricated.

Try Sweet Tomatoes if you have access to a car......it is a chain of restaurants which focuses on fresh fruit and veggies (it's not a totally veggie restaurant though) and apparently has a stunning salad bar!

Hi Hannah. I know what it's like to be excited as you obviously are.

We stayed at ASMo last year and it was great. We are going back to ASSp shortly! I bet you can't wait to see the looks on those little faces. Hopefully the parks will be empty and the weather will be pleasant which should make for a comfortable stay.

We stayed in Mighty Ducks section of ASMo which was near to laundry and facing the quieter pool. The play area was a little way away though, but you can get a map up if you go to the main wdwig.com site and decide which building you would like to be in. I believe you can fax your requests to the resort, if you search I'm sure you will find the info you need.

Everyone here is very helpful so if you don't find what you need I am sure there will be someone willing to help.

The food court was good at ASMo & everything is so well catered for at Disney, so I'm sure you will find loads of excellent veggie options. The wdwinfo site has restaurant links with menus and everything. I'm just worried you won't have enough time on your hands between now and your holiday to look it all up!!!!!

I am not a vegetarian, haven't stayed at AllStars and don't have little children so I am not a great deal of help to you. However, points you might like to consider:

Hiring a car - two tired little ones waiting around for buses might be a struggle.

Start early if the kids are awake and plan some time out in the afternoon, otherwise they will never last until the evening events.

I'm sure you will be planning on taking a double buggy or renting one there.

Have you got a guide book and/or familiarised yourselves with the WDW parks at all?

You can use the information on www.wdwinfo.com where you'll find lots of subheadings for the Theme Parks and the Resorts and resort maps etc. and I'd suggest finding out what each park has to offer and perhaps make some notes to take with you.

Do ask as many questions as you want to help you with your holiday

Avoid overdoing it and take breaks during the day - you could go back to the resort for a rest/lunch, particularly as you have young children, and then return to the parks later - you'll feel refreshed and able to enjoy all that the parks etc have to offer in the evening.

What type of passes do you have or are you getting them out there?

Many many thanks to everyone....we were not going to hire a car until the last day as we are driving down to Sanibel Island for a week of sandcastles and shells! Is this a good idea or is trying to use the transport in Disney with two children a nightmare? The veggie stuff sounds great....we travel alot and do find some places look at you as if you are mad when you ask for veggie meals but i'm gald to hear that disney caters for all.

I have brought Simon Veness book "a brits guide to orlando and WDW 2002" and have a plan of action for each park and what rides/shows are suitable for under 5's.

The hotel feedback sounds good, what is the playground by the All star movie hotel? Is this something that our son would like? Or is it for older children?

And for the passes....we have ultimate park hopper.

I just thought of a few questions that i hope you might be able to help me with.

What time are the fireworks and where is a good place to view them from (outside) but not to close (i think they might scare the baby!)?

I have booked 2 character meals, one with MM in Animal kingdom at Donalds Breakfastosaurus and one with Pooh bear in the Grand Floridan Hotel any tips....?

The strollers....we were going to take two single travel strollers as we find it easier to move around with two but what are the double ones at disney like? And are there facilities to leave them outside rides and restaurants?

Hi Hannah

I'd take your own buggies rather than using WDW ones. IMHO they aren't really suitable for your 9mo as they are made out of moulded plastic and they look uncomfortable. Also they are $14.00 day!!! We have 3 children who are 5 and under and this year we're going to take our buggy for our 2yo and possibly buy either a double or single buggy at Walmart/Toys R Us whilst we're over there.

I agree with Lisa - you need your own buggies, the WDW one's are really designed for older kids who are too big for normal buggies, and you wouldn't want to put your baby in one. (or really even your older child). You can leave them outside rides/restaurants etc - you will see 100's of strollers parked all over the place.

I would strongly recommend you hire a car - with 2 little one's and 2 buggys, you are not going to want to be dealing with those disney buses - they are ok under normal circumstances, but with the amount of stuff you will be hauling around (unless you are way more organised than me!), you will find it a nightmare trying to get on the buses.

Also the car will give you the freedom to move around more easily - you'll be able to go from park to park, or back to your hotel for a rest etc with more freedom. The only place where the car is a slight disadvantage is at MK, as the bus drops you off much closer to the park than the car park - but other that that we prefer to drive.

To check out the schedules for the parades and fireworks I'd recommend you check Disney's own site as they have changed the schedule recently and inserted extra 'Fantasy In The Sky' fireworks. Have paper and pen to jot it all down!

If you are only visiting the WDW parks, I think you'll be fine without a car - I went carless for the first time this year, and since we stuck to WDW, we used the transportation busses etc without a problem. However, the drawback will be at park close when you have two tired children and a lot of people waiting for the busses so I'd either leave before park close - but then you miss the fireworks, or, I'd stay in the park having a drink and browsing around the shops until the majority of the crowd have gone.

Actually I agree with Bev ont he car hire. I did want to say in my post that the disney transportation is great...... but I'll admit it's a pain in the butt when you have buggies etc and or sleeping children.

I stayed at the ASMo last year for 1 week and had a hire car. I only used Disney transportation a couple of times, to be honest I prefered taking the car.
I would have to agree with the others that have said about taking your own buggy.

The ASMo's is a great resort. We stayed in the Dalmatians block, which was close to the food court, Fantasia pool, Mighty Duck pool and bus stops.

My advice is definitely hire a car carrying 2 kids on and off buses and all your gear plus waiting (You could get caught in a shower), could really put a strain on your fun plus the late epcot nights makes it mega hard work.
