Planning first trip to DL since 1978! Which of the many travel guides would you recommend? Also, what is the weather typically like in mid to late July? Recommend staying at a Disney hotel or local hotel? Thanks so much, I am feeling a little overwhelmed!!

:confused3

The very best travel guides are right on this site by Hydroguy. Here is a link to his info http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520483

I'm sure there are great books, but honeslty I have gotten more info from this site than the numerous books I've read on the subject!

Travel guides have their place. The ones for DLR are not that great but here is one of the better ones:

http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Gu...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267974748&sr=1-1

The problem is that they cannot keep up on current park trends. This forum here does.

Also, what is the weather typically like in mid to late July?

Recommend staying at a Disney hotel or local hotel?
First and foremost I recommend staying within walking distance. That is either Disney or good neighbor.

Whether Disney or not depends on your preference and budget. The Disney hotels are more expensive but are more magical.

For us personally we tend to spend very little time at our hotel and use it only for sleeping. So paying extra for a Disney hotel is usually not worth it.

I agree this forum has amazing information. But for a book to read when you are not at a computer, I love the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland. I have found a couple of mistakes in it, but it really is very informative. They have great touring plans that can really help save time standing in lines if you are going during a crowded time of year.
