My family (2adults + 2 kids) have up to now stayed in a Studio. This year we went for a one bed at BCV, but were horrified at the noise from the air conditioning unit.So loud it kept the kids up most of the night. Maintenance came up but told us "this was Florida" and we could not turn it off or alter it.

Just wanted to check is this normal, or maybe just a bad room at BCV? In the Studios you have some control to alter the air con. But not in this one bed.

We are from UK and so air con is less usual here, but have stayed in many US hotels and have never ever heard air con this noisy and it has put us off having a 1 bed again, which is such a shame. Is this normal at BCV/DVC properties, has anyone else had this problem? :cheer2:

The one bedroom units at OKW, even with the newer electronic thermostats, allow you to adjust the temp, and I think, turn the unit off completely. I don't think the units at OKW are very loud, but it may just be that we Americans are used hearing air conditioning as a "background noise." I know with every day in August being over 100 degrees here, near San Antonio, with lows in the the high 70s, I wouldn't have cared if it sounded like a military attack, as long as the unit worked.

I do notice that the AC at OKW is a bit noisier than at home, but we live in a log home, which is kind of like a giant filter for sound an just about anything else. It wasn't loud enough to bother me much, and as Chuck said, the heat would be MUCH worse than the noise.

Most of the complaints about BCV's air conditioning units are about the fact that they are motion sensitive, and the villas are sometimes warmer at night. Are you saying that there wasn't a thermostat that you could see in the unit?

I'm sorry that this happen to you. I'm sorry your kids couldn't sleep. We've only stayed in a 1 bedroom at OKW, studios or 2 bedrooms at other places, and we've never encountered your particular problem at DVC. We've stayed in motels with noisy units, but not the ones at DVC.

Thanks for your comments, which are very interesting. Yes, you are right, the thing we couldnt understand was that there was no thermostat control in the room that could turn the air conditioning off. We thought if you turned the air conditioning thermostat down (so that it got warmer in the room) then it would cut out, but no! I think maybe we were just unlucky this time!

Seems likely that turning down the thermostat did turn off the A/C, but did not turn off the circulating fan. It is true about "this is Fla." The humidity is not any greater than most of the other parts of the east coast, but it is constant and relentless. If you stop the air from circulating mold is almost certain to break out. Nothing worse than mold! Sorry about your situation. We just came back from VB and for the first time had to put up with a dehumidifier that was very noisy. I didn't like it at first, but after dumping about 5 gallons of water a day into the sink I realized how much moisture is really in the units. We had to move the dehumidifier from the living room area down the hall to reduce the noise in that area. Hope your next stay is more sleepful.
