Advice needed for NYC cruise

We're debating sailing out of NYC in October (to CC and PC). This would allow us to skip airfare, but my concern is how chilly it will be.

Has anyone sailed this when it was offered a few years ago? Can you use the pools? Does this mean that areas inside the ship become over-crowded?

This is a once in a lifetime trip with grandparents. Would you sail out of NYC in October?

No airfare but the cruise cost is higher.
If I remember correctly the magic wasn't there that late when they cruise out of nyc before. The pools will be heated.yes I will sail out of nyc in October if it wasn't for the cost I could fly down to mco and sail The fantasy for about the same price with the air. I did DCL NYC to Canada in September in 2012 or whenever it was but that had a special price after the pif date

I haven't been on the cruise, but I would say the sail down will be coat weather for a while. The ocean wind will feel cold, and temperature can be quite chilly in Oct. Once you're east of Florida it will be very nice.

DCL didn't sail in October last time they sailed from NYC. They were only there through September. We sailed with them then and had good weather so was definitely possible to use the pools (they are heated so you could use them even if the temperatures were chillier). But weather is variable. We were on last year's Transatlantic that made a port call in NY in May -- that day was chilly but that was because it was rainy all morning (and well into the day). So the Northeast may be having a warm spell in October so weather might be comfortable or it might be a chilly rainy period so people would be more inclined to be indoors. Never can tell.

Generally though, the really chilly weather would be mostly overnight and into the next morning as you are sailing south and things would (again generally) warm up as you move south. It will be chillier when you are sailing than if you were on land because of the wind. But we are heading out on a couple of the sailings from NY (can't pass up an opportunity to drive to a DCL trip!) so the prospect of chilly weather isn't deterring us. As far as indoor areas being crowded if the weather is cool, the only time we find this to be true is if they move the deck parties (Sail Away) indoors. The lobby is not the same as having it on deck. Yes there are more people in places like the promenade lounge but it hasn't really kept us from being able to enjoy the ship or the activities on board.

Several years ago we took a NCL cruise out of NYC. It was the beginning of October so it was not to bad. My husband and I are not really swimmers so I don't know about the pools. If I remember correctly we did wear light jackets the day we left and then were fine after that.

We are booked for this cruise! This past October was obviously odd for weather but it was very warm here in MA. We are on the 10/7 sailing and not worried. By morning we'll be near the Carolinas. Early October Florida weather is still hot. I can't wait!!! We took the Magic out of NYC in June a few years ago (all adults cruise to nowhere). Cruising by the statue of liberty was so cool!!

Personally would be so convenient instead of flying down to Florida, but since we love the warmer weather:beach: October cruising out of NY would be too cool for us. Enjoy if you go.:goodvibes

We sailed out of NYC on the Magic to Canada a few years ago (it was September I believe). Obviously going north it was chilly. When the boat was moving and you were in the open, definitely needed a windbreaker. If you were outside but out of the wind, it was fantastic weather. Kids spent a little time in the pool, but when they got out, there were definitely a lot of shivers

This past October I sailed out of Boston on October 23rd going to Bermuda. The first day was cold (about 50 degrees). There were a couple of people in the hot tubs but the pool area was pretty empty. By about lunch time the next day the temps were much warmer (70's). The pool area was full of people and it stayed that way until the last full day which was Oct. 29th. So I would expect the first day and last day to be chilly.

We will be cruising the Magic out of NYC October 22nd. I can't wait!!! We did this cruise back in July 2012 and have been patiently waiting for her to return to NYC.

We were on the NYC cruise in Sept. 2012. It was hot in Florida and Bahamas but I do remember 1 chilly/windy day on the last sea day on the way back. I did not find the inside to be crowded at all during that day. The pools on board are pretty small so we don't use them much anyway. The weather can be variable of course but I am sure it will be hot at the ports. I am booked on the NYC cruise 10/7 also and can't wait - and we have 3 other families joining us this time!
