Flying novice here...so, we are flying to Orlando on April 9th, 2016 and returning on April 15th. According to Southwest's new flight release schedule from this morning, they will release flights through April 11th in August. So, that means I can only buy the flight down, but not the return flight. I've never only bought one-way before. How does (or does it?) that complicate things? What are the pros/cons to having to buy each flight separately? I'll also be buying Early Bird if that matters. Makes me nervous to do it this way!

Buying southwest one way is not a problem at all and very simple. One time we flew southwest down and flew delta back. You should not have any problems at all with EBCI.

all of southwest's flights are one way so it will not affect the price if you buy each way separately. Also, EBCI costs the same (12.50 each way) so again, doesn't matter. Other airlines tend to charge more for a one way, but that is not how Southwest works.

This may be a stupid question...I've only flown once since 9/11, but I thought I had read that booking one-way flights makes your more likely to be pulled for a security check....is that true?

No. Not at all.

On a side note, it's a bit too early to be booking tickets for April 2016, however if you found a fare you are comfortable with, by all means go ahead.

A lot of people still seem to think this is an issue, but it is not. There is no issue with buying a one way domestic ticket.

Haha, you sound like my husband! I won't be able to buy until August anyway, but I want to be sure that I get the 'Wanna Get Away' fare. The next level would probably mean about a $150 increase per person. There are several schools in our area that will be having Spring Break that week and anyone going to Florida would all be flying out of the same airport and Southwest is the only carrier with nonstop flights out of that airport and there are only 3 (sometimes 4) flights out per day, with one being extremely early and another being very late at night. So, I figure everyone is going to go for the late morning/early afternoon flight(s). Gotta be on my toes!!

Seriously, though, I really appreciate all of the wonderful feedback and info I get from these forums.

Remember that even though the agents looking at your ticket might make marks on it, NO ONE ELSE looks at that ticket to see what they've marked on it.
