Advice Help: Booking Dolphin With SPG Points??

Hi Gang

I "may" be going to a engineering work confernence at the Gaylord Palms just 3 minutes southeast of Disney from June 1st to the 4th, 2008 (Sunday to Thursday). I'm trying to get my boss' ok to go to this.

I'd like to take my gang to Disney as well. I also have 40,000 spg points that would allow us to stay at the Swan or Dolphin for 5 nights. So I'm thinking of booking the Dolphin from the 5th to the 10th (Friday to Wednesday) of June with the SPG points. We'd leave on the Wednesday back to Canada.

So what I need your advice for is... how should I do this? Should I book the Dolphin now and if the conference falls through in a month say... then I'd just cancel my 5 SPG nights? Should I wait and book the Dolphin later when I know the conference is confirmed? Is it difficult to get a room for 5 nights with SPG points?

PS. I'm also an SPG Gold member if that makes any difference, I don't know.

I would book now. Actually, I would go to SPG and read the "rules" for booking and cancelling first!

Typically, the first weekend in June is the start of Gay Days in the Orlando area and getting a room at the last minute could present a problem.

I guess it really depends on how soon you would know about the conference.

I would just call the Dolphin and explain your situation and see what they tell you. I'm only aware of the 48 hours notice to cancel but I'm not sure how it works with points. They understand that anything can happen from now until your trip. That holds true for all of us that book early. I just booked the Swan for my next August trip because I want to make sure I get my rooms and they told me 48 hours notice to cancel which works just fine for me.
