OK, so we camped at FW once 5 years ago in our pop up. It didn't go that well (electrical trouble on the way down, hitch problems, sick baby, etc). Then the following year we camped closer to home and DS 2 had a bad asthma attack and ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. DH then decided camping wasn't for us and the pop up has been sitting in the driveway ever since.

I want to talk him into camping again. Our DS's health issues are managed much better now (he has CF which we didn't know then so he wasn't treated properly). And our youngest is 5, oldest 12, which makes things much easier. We do have a dog now (pit rescue) so we would definitely want to bring the dog. DH is hesitant to try it again. And he's gotten a little used to the DVC rooms which isn't helping.

OK, so how do I convince them? And what do I need to know if I want to drag them down in the pop up in August? We have air, so that will help. And I assume I'll have to put the dog in the kennels whenever we're at the parks because of the heat. But how do you convince a reluctant family? And what problems might we encounter camping in august? (last time was april)

Sorry to be so long winded about it but I really want to try it again. I'd love to upgrade to a bigger rig and camp every year.

we have a TT. we bring our dogs for every trip and they love it. they have been camping since they were 6 weeks old. if this is the dogs first time camping I wouldn't take the chance either, I know many dogs do not take to it very well. Try a trip around home to seee how he does. Also the Fort requires that dogs NOT be left alone for any amount of time in a pop-up, that makes for alot of trips to the kennels. It will also be very hot, if the dog isn't use to that he may be uncomfortable. He has to have all shots and a kennel cough shot to enter the kennel, bring your vet records with you. the water and electric loops 1500 and 2000 are not pet loops. So if you bring him ask for a pet loop. which are 1600 -1900 for full hook ups.

This may not want to be what you want to hear...but if your DH goes into this not wanting to go then he is going to be more likely to blame you for any mishaps. Maybe it would be better to try a couple of weekends closer to home and see how it goes first. :confused3

Glad to hear you rescued a pit! We have a dalmation/pit mix and love him so much. He has never gotten to go camping with us because most campgrounds won't allow certain breeds. Of coarse i probably should not take dogs camping after what i did to our little wiener dog this weekend. I tied him in the shade while we were packing up to leave and forgot him. Thank goodness when i went to pull out my battery was dead and i opened the door to stop my husband who was already pulling out with the TT and i heard him crying. Anyway, i hope you can convince you Dh to give it a try. I think your kids would love it. Have him spend some time on this board. We'll do our best to talk him into it.

I agree with Shannone, try a couple of trips locally and then do a longer trip. This way, you can get back into the swing of things and if things go better, DH might be more inclined to want to go instead of going because he is made to. ;)

I agree. Try a few trips close to home and see how they go first.
Good luck!
