Adventure (and Food) is calling our names – 10/2010 PTR - Six More Hours!!! 10/1

We've had a slight change in costume ideas. We got Brendan's costume and it is WAY too fancy for Ichabod. He is now going to be Lord Cutler Becket from the Pirates movies (2 & 3) and Charlotte is going to be Elizabeth Swann. We now have to figure out which costume we are going to shoot for with Elizabeth.

Still no ideas for me. Hummm...:confused3

I'm still here :) (and no pity!!)

Just remember how hot it can be still in October. We did MNSSHP last year with shorts and tee shirts and were hot!!

I know what you mean. Last year I wore a long sleeve shirt and had a leather jacket, gloves and a fur hat (this was for an event inside a hotel, but it was October) and I about died from the heat. Needless to say the jacket, gloves and hat did not stay on long.

The only saving grace for Brendan is he is our little iceberg. He often wears his flannel pajama bottoms under his jeans to keep warm. Maybe it's because he has NO fat on his bones, I'm not sure, but hopefully this will be one instance that it will work in his favor.

Oh love all the costume ideas Jane!! You need to get yours sorted!! :scared1:

We are coming very unmatched . . . I'm coming as Alice, but Tony insisted on being Indiana Jones!! As someone said, Indi probably would have hit on Alice if he ever met her, so its all good!!!!!!:rotfl2:

Hi Sonya,

I'm starting to panic that I can't figure out a good costume! You will be a fantastic Alice and Tony as Indy is also a good choice. I think mixing films is a great idea (although I think Tony would have made a great Mad Hatter).

I was thinking of maybe doing one of the good fairies from Sleeping Beauty (from when she was in the cottage in the woods, not the big hoop skirt things) mostly because the outfit would be pretty easy to make and cool. But would anyone know who I was if I didn't have the other two fairies with me? I'm pretty sure I couldn't get Jim and Brendan to switch and dress in drag.

Just have to post this:

OMG! I can't believe we are finally getting there!!!

:cool1::woohoo::yay::dance3::cheer2:

I'll really have to get the check list out and start working on things. I've tried to get everyone to tell me what they want me to order for the grochery delivery but I still don't have a complete list.

We watched a couple more movies: Lady and the Tramp and The Sword in the Stone (we skipped Sleeping Beauty because we don't have it and 101 Dalmations because the kids just recently saw it at Charlotte's house). Jim's neice is going to come up next weekend for a visit before she goes off to college and she's going to bring her copy of SB for us to watch.

Amazingly, DN has never been to San Francisco before so we are planning a weekend in the city. We're going to spend Saturday morning/afternoon at the Disney Family Museum and then hit a couple sites that we need to drive to (beach, Golden Gate Park, etc) and then walk accross the Golden Gate Bridge. Sunday Brendan and Charlotte will be off and can join us. We'll take BART into the city and do Japan Town (something I've never done but the kids LOVE) Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, maybe a Bay Cruise, etc). Then back home for a family BBQ.

Ok, so I just checked my numbers and noticed that there ARE in fact people reading my thread (or at least opening up the first page). I've asked for lurkers to jump on and comment with only a few takers. I'm now prepared for all out bribery. I will ship out a prize (my choice, remember I have to pay for the WDW vacation) from the Disney Family Gift Shop to anyone that can guess the amount of time we will spend in the actual museum (no in/out privileges so if you want to eat you have to leave). I'll record our timing and then post the results.

Any takers???

I can't believe how close the trip is getting! It seemed like it wasn't so long ago that we were both celebrating double digits!

Have a great time in San Fran!

I'll jump on board! I've been lurking for sometime to get info on Congaloosh. We will be attending and I am currently in the middle of pulling together adventurer costumes. We are also taking a trip to San Francisco & Napa next month. So I am looking forward to your report on the Walt Disney museum as we are also planning to spend a morning there. I hadn't given it much thought but now that I do I guess we would probably spend a couple of hours there, maybe more. It will be interesting to here how much time you actually spend. My official guess - 2 hours & 20 minutes

Hi Txdznydude! Welcome and thanks for posting!

Have you seen that Karl (aka Blondie) will be doing a comedy show after the banquet and all the activities on Saturday? I don't think that I posted that yet, but It's been on the ConGaloosh site.

We have another board meeting next weekend to finalize all the details.

How long will you be in San Francisco next month? As I just reminded my neice, bring along long pants and a sweatshirt. It really doesn't seem to warm up in SF till October. That's how all the SF shops make their money selling sweatshirts to people that think that summer in SF will be warm. We were just up in the Sonoma County last weekend and the fog didn't burn off till almost noon.

So far the plans look like the museum and zoo on Saturday. Sunday we will be hitting the normal tourist desinations (Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, etc).

Yes I did see where Karl was added to the activities. I've been checking in on the Congaloosh site from time to time also. I'm very excited about all the activities, congaloosh and Food & Wine. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the schedule of culinary demonstrations as well as the wine seminars. I plan to squeeze as many of those in before, during and after the congaloosh activities as possible. We'll be arriving on Thursday October 7th and departing the night of the 11th to give us some extra food & wine time.

We have three days planned for Napa/Sonoma Sept. 20-23 and four in San Fran following that. I've been to the city twice before but this will be my first time going to the wine country. I am really looking forward to some good food & wine. Thanks for the advice about bring along some warmer clothing. I'll try to dress in layers. It's been above 100 degrees every day for two weeks here in Texas. I'm really looking forward to a cooler climate.

We're really looking forward to the F&W festival as well. We've printed out the booth listings and already have a couple of "must dos".

I'm not a wine drinker but I believe September is right near the time that they pick and crush the grapes. You might actually get to see some activity at the vineyards.

We've bought the tickets for the museum today. 10:00am entrance (they only sell a certain number of tickets for every 15 minutes). Sarah also has decided that she wants to visit the SF Zoo as well on Saturday so it will be a full day.

Oh, I found out today that the board meeting was moved to Saturday so I'll have to find a quiet spot that I won't disturb anyone while I'm on the ConGaloosh Board call at the museum. Luckily I've already been there once so I can hide for a while and Jim and Sarah can mosy all they want.

Sure, *she* says she can't find a costume to wear. She just refuses to accept my suggestion of a French Maid outfit! :confused3

I'll guess three hours!!! I can't wait to go there on next years trip - let me know what you think of it!!

Trust me this ISN'T an option. I actually have come up with an idea, not cheap, but I think I can actually put it together. I got the idea from looking at stuff at the Disney Museum. Jimmy, Sharon, Timmy, Annette.....Jane! A Mouseketeer from the original TV Show. Pleated skirt, white shirt and ears!

We're back from our weekend in San Francisco. We had a really good time and the weather was perfect.

Now that I have the time that was spent in the Museum logged. I'll give one last call for guesses. I'm going to use the time that Jim and Sarah were in the museum since I had to leave early to make the ConGaloosh Conference call.

The prize is a nice souvineer from the gift shop. So all guesses need to be posted by tomorrow night at 7:00pm Pacific Time.

The first time we went to the museum (last October the second weekend it was opened) the place was really crowded. On Saturday we were able to walk through the whole museum without having to wait to see each exhibit.

I really don't know why we don't get into the city more often...

I've tallied the votes and the closest without going over (using the Price is Right rules) is Pooh's-Honey-Pot. Since we were using the time that Jim and Sarah were in the museum (I had to leave early for a ConGaloosh Board conference call) here is the exact timing:

Entered museum 10:05am
Walked out of building: 1:45pm

For a total of 3 hours and 40 minutes! That's a little shorter than our first trip where we stayed over 4 hours, but the kids were hungry and at that time they didn't let you re-enter.

Sonya I have a wonderful WDFM key chain waiting for you. PM me your shipping information and I'll send it to you. Or since you are arriving on the day that we depart I can leave it at your hotel in WDW and you can pick it up when you arrive. Just let me know which you would prefer.

I'm going to guess 6 hours at the museum.

But I don't need to be bribed.

I sure hope you are planning a TR. I'll be HAUNTING the TR threads now that I have a trip in the works. I love reading to find out bits and pieces that might be useful info for my trip.

Hi Julie!

Sorry the prize has already been won. But that would have been a good guess if it would have just been Jim and I. I would have stayed to watch the Swiss Family Robinson movie and then stayed to listen to Tommy Kirk talk about working with Walt and making the movie.

I've got great hopes of writing a TR. Hopefully Jim will help me out (he takes great notes) and I'm hoping to take lots of pictures this trip.

Ok, I bought the pieces to my costume and I was even able to get it on sale! I had to get the skirt from a school uniform site, because pleated skirts are not huge in the fashion world right now.

I was looking at the crocs website and there is a simple shoe that looks like the black shoes that the girls used to wear and then some white socks. I already have the ears so I will just need to put the letters on the shirt and I'll be good to go.

One more thing crossed off the list.
