Adventure (and Food) is calling our names – 10/2010 PTR - Six More Hours!!! 10/1

Hi I just got caught up, joined from your link on my PTR. Love the plans. too bad your son and GF are not going, understandable why. Hope the rest of the gang has a great time. Did you see they are offering FD extended through dec? Not sure if it applies to your trip but could save some $$$.:goodvibes

We have been watching Disney movies as well, I should probably go add them to my PTR!

If I try the Butterbeer, I will definitely let you know how it is! I've heard it tastes like butterscotch and I am not a butterscotch fan so someone else in my party will have to get it. No way I'll finish that whole thing but I'll have a taste.

He doesn't want to wear shorts??? :scared1: He's going to be sooooo hot if he doesn't get over the hairy leg thing lol

Welcome!!! Glad to have you aboard!

I wish they were going as well. Unfortunately it just doesn't work for Patty (Jenny's Mom) and she's not ready to let Jenny go alone with us. Jim and I were talking that maybe we'll try and see if Patty and Jenny would like to try a long weekend in the Fall and go to DL.

Steven and Jenny just got back from a camp in Arizona with a Young Life group. They both had a really good time and it gave Steven a chance to fly and hopefully get over some of his fears. He said he did a lot of the activities (zip line, ropes course, etc) so he really stretched and pushed the limits of what he would normally do. Apparantly they gave the kids a DVD of their week at camp so we're going to watch that tomorrow night when he comes over for dinner.

Jenny - I keep telling him that he just has to get over it and not worry about what people might or might not be saying about him. Plus if he were to start wearing shorts now the sun would probably bleach some of the hair and it wouldn't seem as bad. You'd think that he was the missing link or something, he isn't abnormally hairy or anything. Someone must have teased him at some point and he's really self-conscience.

I got a great delivery today. I sent my favorite sandals (Mephistos) in to get refirbished and they finally showed up today. For $75 they re-insole, resole and refirbish the leather. They look like new, but for a third of the price of a new pair. I'm so stoked that I don't have to go looking for a new pair of sandals. :dance3:

Tell him to pack some shorts just incase. Maybe he'll wear jeans/pants on the first day, realize how incredibly hot it is, and change his mind while you're there!

Oh, he WILL be packing some shorts. He also has at least one pair of convertable pants (long pants that you zip off the legs to make shorts) from Boy Scouts so those will be going as well.

I think this weekend we are going to hit some thrift stores to try and find the items for Jim's costume. I'll see if I can find anything to use for Friday night at ConGaloosh or if anything catches our eye for a costume for MNSSHP.

I got the two swimsuits that I ordered from Lands End and they both fit! I'm so happy that I at least have a choice to make. I was worried that I'd be scouring the shops in September trying to find something to wear. Now I just have to wait till the third one comes in to make a final decision.

I had to go to Party City for work today. I wonder how many people have to buy 15 hula hoops for a work function? So of course I wandered the shop and found small fans on lanyards for $75 each. I made sure they all work (now) and got four different colors. Then I got four tubes of mini M&M's, but these were the jumbo sized tubes. Great for the airplane, I mean who doesn't love M&M's on a plane?

Julie - Good catch! Yup it was $.75 each. Cheap but if they break down we can toss them and I won't have any problems. Also, who knows if the kids will even use them.

No update today - spent the afternoon in the emergency waiting room with my Mom (my brother was taken to the hospital with trouble breathing) after 6 hours I'm just too exhausted to think. He's in ICU with a breathing tube and kidney failure, pixie dust and good thoughts appreciated.

Oh no I hope your brother gets better soon! Do they know what happened? We spent 36 days in ICU last summer this time with my Mom. I know how you're feeling. She still has kidney failure and is on a transplant list. :(

Thanks for the well wishes. Unfortunately, they don't know what started all the problems. He is doing better he was taken off the ventilator yesterday and is breathing on his own. His vitals are much better. They still don't know exactly what happened, but they are going to watch him in ICU probably through today and then they will might move him to a regular room. His kidney's are working some (not to full capacity) but they haven't shut down completely which is really good. They are trying to get him re-hydrated and see if that helps his blood chemistry. But he might have a bit of pnemonia in one lung.

Update on my brother: he's been moved from ICU to a regular room. They still don't know what is going wrong but his vitals are getting better and hopefully he'll be released soon.

On Sunday we watched another two DVDs on our list: Adventures of Icabod and Mr. Toad and Cinderella. The kids had never seen the Adventures movies (and if we had it was a LONG time ago). After dinner we decided to play some board games and after a game of LIFE (we have an old version from the 70s) we decided to play a Disney Trivia game. We had to eliminate some of the questions since the game is quite old and some of the questions are about hotels/attractions that aren't around anymore. We had a great time. I'd love to get an updated game and try again.

I think Jim is hooked on Podcasts now. He's been listening to them at work and has blown through a bunch of them. I told him he better start listening to some non-Disney ones so we will have something to listen to on our drive this weekend.

Good news about your brother being moved from ICU. I'll keep him in my thoughts. :goodvibes

I've never seen anything with Mr. Toad in it. I just know him purely from the old attraction. I went on it on my first trip with my dad and all I remember is the train. The rest of the time, I had my eyes closed! That rings true for Haunted Mansion and POTC too.

Jenny - thanks! They were talking about releasing him today, but as of 6pm he was still waiting for final orders.

It was so interesting to watch the movie and see the scenes from the ride.

We just got back from a long weekend at the Ashland Shakespeare Festival in Oregon. It was a 6 hour drive but we spent it listening to Disney Podcasts and the time just flew by.

We stayed at a fantastic B&B in Jacksonville which is about 30 minutes North of Ashland.

It was wonderful to get away for the weekend. I got to test out my bagalini again and because it was SO hot and sunny, I bought a hat and tested out wearing it all weekend long. Normally I don’t like hats (baseball type) because of bad hat hair for the rest of the day and most of them don’t breathe enough for me. I found a panama style hat with a mid-sized brim. It is supposed to be able to roll up and then bounce back into shape. I like the hat, but I’m not sure it’s the right size; every time the wind would blow it would fly off. Luckily it has a chin strap that I would have around my neck to capture it before it took off down the street.

Here Benjamin is showing us the marquee for Saturday night where we had tickets to Twelfth Night in the Elizabethan Theatre. The show was wonderful, but it only cooled down to the high 80s by the time the show was over.

Anyway, we had a nice relaxing weekend and since we were trying to stay cool in the late afternoon I did a lot of reading. I was able to finish “Peter and the Starcatchers”. I really liked it. It was a quick read and was perfect for the weekend.

It was a great weekend and best of all there were no disasters while we were gone.

Normally someone has some issue that is mentioned just as we are coming home (but not actually home yet, so we can't do anything about it). I kept waiting for that call and was shocked when it didn't come.

Sorry I've been away. All you readers really need to stop chatting so much on my thread while I'm away. :lmao:

Actually I'm pretty sure I'm just here to amuse myself and a couple of wonderful people that take pity on me and post every once in a while.

Ok, pity party over.

We have done a couple of things to get ready for the trip that I can post here.

Tickets for MNSSHP - Ordered!!! We'll be picking them up at Will Call. That way there are one less set of tickets that I have to worry about.

Costume Ideas for MNSSHP - 3 out of 4 of us know what we want to wear. Just need to find all the parts.

Jim - Dr. Henry Jonesl Sr.
Brendan - Ichibod Crane (not the Johnny Depp version - the cartoon version)
Charlotte - Belle (in the blue outfit)
Jane - not a clue in the world:confused3

Actual costumes - Started the searchs

Jim - bought the hat and a tweed jacket (boy is he going to be HOT) in the parks. Need to find a white shirt, vest and bow tie.
Brendan - Fantastic find! I was searching online for a colonial costume and found one on clearance originally for $99 on sale for $5 (Yup, five smackers, cost me more to ship it and its a large instead of a medium, but heck I can do some tucks and make it work.
Charlotte - she has the shoes and the white shirt. She's going to look for a similar dress or we might end up sewing something for her.

Movie night - watched Peter Pan

Swim Suit - FINALLY found a suit that I like that fits, lifts what it needs to lift and squishes what it needs to squish. I also bought a little skirt to hide the old lady thighs. :scared1:

That's about all for now. Oh, and

only 58 more days to go!!!!
:cheer2:

Thanks you reminded me I need to get moving on my kids costumes, I have the fabric. I can not sew so (ha ha:lmao:, I have never used that in a row before) my DSIL is doing them for us.
Both boys will be Sheriff Woody (the one year old without a hat!)
