Adventure (and Food) is calling our names – 10/2010 PTR - Six More Hours!!! 10/1

All of us are Huge HP fans and watching the preview made us rethink for a couple of minutes.

I'll be really interested to hear all about your visit. Please take a TON of pictures.

Venison and Bambi :lmao: Sorry, that made me laugh, too. What about salads with edible flowers? Then maybe some smores since there is the big woods fire... That part always makes me think too bad they didn't have marshmallows and know how to use the sticks. I know, I'm warped, too :rotfl:

Next year we're going the last week in October if you want to have the party then :rolleyes1

Yeah, he has a warped sense of humor. I like the suggestion of smores. We being of the scout persuassion we are experts (we even have our own marshmallow rotating sticks). I don't know if the kids would go for salad with edible flowers (not sure where I'd find them).

I'll suggest the last week of October just for you!

Movie night!

Jim grabbed some pizza from Papa Murphy's. I figured Bambi looked like a pizza when he was spinning on the ice. Yeah that's how I "themed" our dinner to the movie.

We did make microwave smores for the first time. WOW marshmellows REALLY puff up in the microwave after 10 seconds!!!

After Bambi it was time for Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros. Fruit smoothies!!!

We are all stuffed to the gills. Happy and contented of course I think I'll have the Three Caballeros song in my head for a long time...

I loved watching some of the more obscure Disney movies when we did it. (Like the Three Caballeros!) Hope you're having fun with your movie nights!!

We are having a great time watching the movies. Last night Steven even joined us. We did have to stop Three Caballeros after 1 hour because it was getting late. This time only Charlotte fell asleep for a little while.

Of course our family being who we are, we totally talk during the movies. It was really interesting watching Saludos Amigos and the start of Three Caballeros since none of us had seen any of them before. I'm trying to hunt down a bootleg copy of Song of the South for next week. Lots of food options there to theme our dinner around.

We hit our double digit last week and I completely missed it!!!

We are at 96 days away from our trip!!!!

:cool1::woohoo::dance3::yay:

Tonight we watched almost all of the WWII cartoons. We still had supplies left over from our Bambi smores so we ate them again. My rationalization was soldiers would get chocolate bars in their care packages (at least they always seem to in the movies). It really is amazing how much has changed since the 40s and how those movies wouldn't be made today.

Brendan and Charlotte saw TS3 last weekend, Jim and I are thinking about going next weekend.

I don't remember if I mentioned it here or on the WISH thread but last weekend I took my Mom down to visit her sister in Southern California. I used my new bagalini. It was a perfect bag. I really loved it. I actually think I'm going to buy another one for my Mom to use when she goes out shopping. She has a huge bag that weighs probably 10lbs.

I still need to find a swimsuit. I know I've said that I was going to order it before but I'v just put it off. Its just too depressing shopping for suits at the stores (I can never find anything that fits right) and ordering online is just scary. I just better get off my duff and do it or I won't have anything to choose from.

Hooray for double digits! :woohoo:

You must go see TS3! It was excellent. Plus Pixar seems to be the only company with an original thought in their head. Everything else is a remake, based on a book, or just not good!

We were at Sears this past weekend. Land's End has some really cute stuff!
I'll have to swing by and check them out.

I think I'm just going to have to plan on kidnapping Jim and taking him to the movies. We haven't gone in a long time and this weekend seems like a perfect time.

Did I lose everyone reading? Sorry I've been MIA for a while. I promise I'll post more frequently if all lurkers will come out and play.

I can't beleive we are finally under 90 days (84 to be exact) it seemed like such a long time to wait and now its almost here. Last week we watched Melody Time for our Movie "Night" with Brendan's work schedule we usually watch the movies on Sunday afternoon. He has to work tomorrow and Charlotte just got a job at a sporting goods store so I'm not quite sure when we'll get a chance to watch our next movie.

To Do Check list:

Buy Swimsuits - I finally ordered a couple of swimsuits online yesterday. I did get a couple from Land’s End and one from a place called Junio. I’m hoping one of them works out and I can cross that off my list.

Order MNSSHP tickets – I still need to do this, I did call DVC Member Services and found out that Oct 3 does have DVC discount tickets so we’ll save a whole $.70 from the pre-purchase price.

ConGaloosh Plans

Friday, October 8
Meet at DHS Great Movie Ride for a Jim Korkis presentation. My Jim and I got to talk to Jim last year. I was just amazed at all the stories he told us. I’m looking forward to getting a chance to learn more history from him.

Dinner and Show at Cairo set behind Indiana Jones set. This event is really coming together. We’re really hoping we get close to selling out the entire event so we can add items to the show. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Disney Entertainment unit writes for the AC cast for the venue. I’ve never been to an after hours event at any of the parks and getting to have the dinner and show on the set will be a real thrill.

Saturday, October 9
Meet at MK Jungle Cruise with Lou Mongello. I’ve been listening to the WDW Radio Podcasts for the last couple of months and I can hardly wait to listen to Lou talk about the Jungle Cruise. Last year we had a great cruise down the rivers with Right Guard Ian and an entire boat of adventures. It will be hard to top that, but I’m sure Lou will rise to the occasion.

Tradeshow and other activities at the Royal Palm Hotel: I’ve volunteered to coordinate the tradeshow tables for the event and then work the official table selling items so I’ll be at the hotel for a good portion of the day. Jim said that he might come over for a bit, but he’ll probably head over to Epcot to cruise the food booths. With the people that we have lined up for the tables I’m really looking forward to getting a chance to know them all and can’t wait to get to work with them.

Banquet, AC History and AC Cast Panel: I don’t know if I’ll be “dressing for the hunt” this year. Last year my costume was NOT Florida friendly (leather jacket, fur lined hat, gloves, etc). I have found a shorts/vest outfit that might work, but I’ll have to see if I have time to change after the tradeshow. Jim Korkis will be doing a more in depth study of the old (may it RIP) AC building and history. I can’t wait to hear the AC cast panel tell more stories about their experiences. I mean it’s great to see them in new roles when we visit the park, but I’ve always loved hearing behind the scene stories. I could listen to them for hours.

Sunday, October 10

There will probably be a meet for Breakfast like last year. We really haven’t flushed out this portion of the event. Hopefully it will be around brunch time so we can get some sleep after a late night.

I'm still here! Sounds like your plans are firming up. It would be fun to meet Lou. Refresh my memory - you are one of the organizers for ConGaloosh, right?

$.70?! You're rich! :cool1:
Hey, that's $.70 PER ticket! I can buy a couple of pressed pennies as souvies with my savings.

I'm on the board that is planning the event. It's difficult because the rest of the board are either located in FL or travel there frequently so they are able to meet in person. I'm always on the phone on a conference call so I try and help out as much as possible from this far away.

Sounds like your plans are coming together. They sound great!

I'm still on the fence about MNSSHP. I'd like to go but not sure when we could fit it in!

We had such a blast last year that we want to take the kids, but it all depends on what you want to do during the event. Are you interested in the character meets, special parade or trick-or-treating? Or is it more a chance to get to ride the rides with less people. If its the latter then I'd skip it and just go to an EMH night. The tickets are expensive and if you aren't doing any of the special stuff it isn't worth it (IMO).

I wish we could squeeze in a visit to US and WWHP, but it just isn't in the cards (or wallet) for us this time. This weekend I watched a bunch of the movies (marathon on TV) and it just made me wish we could go more. I guess we'll just have to plan another trip to FL sooner rather than later.

I went to MNSSHP last year and loved it. I did everything I could! The trick or treating was fun and the parade was amazing. If we weren't going to Universal, I think I'd be trying to talk everyone into MNSSHP but I don't think everyone is going to want to do both. As you said, it's not in the wallet! And I'd rather go visit Mr. Harry Potter! :) I was watching the marathon too. I absolutely love those movies, especially the first!

I love the first one as well. I really liked Richard Harris as Dumbledore in the first movie. I can hardly wait for the next movie to come out. Although when there aren't any more movies to anticipate I'm going to be really sad.

I'm sorry that we aren't going to be experiencing the ride, but more importantly, we're going to miss tasting Butterbeer! You'll have to let me know how you like it.

Since we are at 83 days and counting I want to get this thread more active.

I’ve started my “To Do” list.

Buy MNSSHP tickets via DVC Member line - yup even with that little discount.

Organize kids “travel gifts” - I bought them stuff for the plane trip, just like you would for smaller kids). Once I’ve got them all out of their hiding place I’ll take a picture to share.

Prepare shopping list for Garden Grocer – I need to get everyone together to make decisions.

Place order for Garden Grocer – trying to decide if I’m going to ship a box to the hotel with a couple of items or if I just bite the bullet and have GG pick up the sunscreen. Does anyone have any experience taking glow sticks in carry on luggage? I was going to bring some bracelets for us to wear during MNSSHP but don’t want to ditch them at the airport.

Shop for clothes – I’m in desperate need of shorts/Capri pants for the trip. Luckily a couple of my friends have a girl’s weekend planned near an outlet mall and hopefully I’ll be able to find some options. I know both Charlotte and Brendan need shorts for the trip. Brendan doesn’t like wearing shorts (he says he legs are too hairy) I’m telling him to get over it he does not want to be wearing jeans in that humidity.

Decide on costumes for ConGaloosh – Like I said before I’ve got an option for one outfit, but don’t know if I’ll be able to come up with two. Jim found a Dr. Jones, Sr. hat, but we haven’t tried looking for the rest of the outfit yet.

Decide on costumes for MNSSHP – I’m leaning more towards a decorated t-shirt since they would be much cooler and easier to pack. I’ll have to nail down the kids and see what they want to do.

In Air entertainment - I’need to figure out what I’m going to load onto the iPods for the plane trips. Jim finally joined the rest of us iPod lovers and bought a iPod Nano from Woot and has just started to download podcasts. Has anyone had any luck downloading movies from a DVD that you own to your iPod? I just can’t figure out what I want to spend $$ on to purchase off of iTunes, but if I could transfer something that I already own I’d love that. I should just spend some time reading the instructions. HA!
