Advantage to buying direct

I know there can be a big financial advantage to buying resale but today I had one of those moments that makes buying direct more attractive for us.

Hung up the phone with our guide around 2:35pm today after completing our BLT add-on (Woo-Hoo :cool1::yay::woohoo:).

Went on the member site around 3:45pm to check something else altogether & imagine my shock to see our new acquisition listed & available for usage already!

Less than 90 minutes & our new points were in the system. Gotta love it!

I was just shocked, especially after seeing so many posts about peoples resale timeline issues.

And the other great thing is I get to make whatever arrangements I need, utilizing these new points now, and if the webcast offers a better deal I get my contract re-written. No muss. No fuss.

I don't want this to sound anti-resale. I'm just happy whenever I have a good guest service experience.

A similar thing happened to us when we added on 50 BLT points (we bought too few to start with). I know our guide told us the points would be there that afternoon, but were shocked to see them.

I remember reading a post that unless resale saved him more than $500 then he wasn't messing with resale. At the time I was shocked. But now that I've become a real DVC believer I can see his point of view.

I know this is silly...but I have been reading up on all these threads and learning quite a bit. Thats not the silly part - whats silly is I am too scared to call DVC. I am thinking I will have a better chance of getting accepted for financing through them directly, and since I will be putting down $5000 I will be able to get what we really want. But I am scared to call them and begin the process. Has anyone else felt this way or am I being a scardy cat? :scared1: I have been wanting this for a long long time.

We bought direct because we had a ressie for December at Pop ($2200) and by having the points immediately we could cancel Pop and stay at BLT on points. So that amount saved means we paid about ~$105 per point for BLT. :thumbsup2

Don't be afraid!

I know where you are coming from, but they will be super nice and easy to work with and you will be very glad in the end that you didn't put it off any longer.....

GO FOR IT!!

Congrats on the add on! Getting the points right away is an incentive in itself! We are glad we bought our 1st contract direct back in Feb and have aleady made 2 ressie on those points.(got the 2009 points as incentive and they allowed us to use Aug UY which we wanted so we could bank the points) We are now waiting SSR resale ROFR and are okay with the wait since we will be paying 69.00 per point vs. 97.00 and we will still be getting 2009 points. Buying direct was good for our comfort zone (plus BLT is so new not too many deals) it gave us the opportunity to get our feet wet and to see what DVC has to offer. I'll keep you posted on the resale experience, so far everyone at TSS has been great. Either way it is exciting! Cannot wait until May to use our 1st ressie

Come on in, the water's warm! I was afraid at first, it's a big financial committment but IMHO, WELL worth it. Your only regret will be not buying in sooner, so don't delay!

Our first DVC purchase was direct with Disney. It was incredibly smooth, fast and I had our first reservation made within about 24 hours... and to "top it off with a cherry", our guide ensured our first request. I couldn't have asked for a smoother transaction.

That being said, our second DVC purchase will most likely be resale via TSS, but I am hoping I have the patience to wait it out. I am spoiled from buying direct though I know it will save money in the long run. ;)

we just added on 50 points at BCV direct through Disney.....the next day the points were already there (and we got 09 points to boot!)

One of the great things about DVC, IMO, is that there is something for everyone and that includes the purchasing process/options.

There are absolutely pros & cons to each avenue and I'm not trying to promote one over the other. I just wanted to make our experience known for anyone that is in a time sensitive situation.

Considering DVC was able to match our existing UY & provide 2009 points (April UY), we decided this was the road for us. We have been members since 2004 and have done a few add-ons in the last few years but this was our first venture into a 2nd home resort.

It's all about finding the right "fit" for you.

FWIW, after I banked those 2009 points, I tried to make a res for a 1BR the first week of December (which is why I believed we needed home resort priority in the first place) and every view was booked :scared1: Could get a day here & a day there but not 5 consecutive nights so we're waitlisted before the 7 month window has even opened up!

I have added on twice directly through Disney. I know it would drive me crazy to deal with ROFR. It's just worth the extra money to me to not have to wait. My add ons were 30 and 50 points. If I was buying more than 100, I'd probably think a bit more about it.
