Any adults on here with SPD? I'm just starting to connect the dots. I've had this all my life. It's starting to get worse, especially with auditory things. It explains why as a child I couldn't tolerate hair washing or hair brushing. It explains why I only eat a certain range of foods and never deviate from them. It explains why I enjoyed playing goalie in hockey so much, not only was there a ton of sensory input, but the gear weighs 50+ pounds so it was like wearing a weighted vest. It just explains so much. I'm trying to get into the university clinic here to get tested for the auditory portion of it and if I test positive, I can get treatment there. Yay! But just wondering anyone else's experiences? Have you been able to get treatment as an adult? Thanks!

I'm an adult and mother with High-Functioning Autism, complete with my share of sensory processing issues. I don't quite know what you mean by "treated"... I am medicated for anxiety, and my husband has more or less made it his life's purpose to keep me as mellow as possible.

Not certain how helpful I can be to you or to others, because to say, "Well, go find someone to treat you to deep pressure every day," isn't exactly the most practical answer out there for most folks. But I do owe my sweet husband lots, and of course he never keeps score. :lovestruc

I think if you have a diagnosis that allows you accommodations and you know your limits, you're fairly good to go as an adult. The rest is up to your personal life.

Yes as an adult aspie I still have sensory processing differentials (disorders) as do the vast majority of adults on the spectrum. Many of use have “self adapted” to a great extent, sometimes to the extent of moving a challenging differential to a beneficial one.
