Hi everyone!! Quick question that will show everyone what a cheapskate I am! :cool1: Have you ever encountered a problem with an adult ordering from the kids menu?? At tableservice or counter service?? Aside from the $$$ factor, I am really not a big eater and hate to waste food on big portions. Thanks!!

My DM order from the children's menu at the Plaza Restuarant. The CM did say something about her ordering that. My DM said she just couldn't find anything she liked on the adult menu, and she wasn't feeling well and didn't want a huge portion. The CM said she would let her order it, but she couldn't promise other places would allow her also.

I guess it's up to the CM and place you are at.

Good Luck

Chris

A counter service place isn't going to know who the meals are for, just like a McD's or someplace. I wouldn't imagine anything being said at a c/s place.

Generally, from what I have read here on the DIS, most sit-down places do not allow adults to order off the child's menu. Counter-service is a whole different story, though, as you can order whatever you'd like.

My suggestion, which is both cheaper and provides less food, is to order an appetizer as your main course. For example, we went to Alfredo's in Italy and they offer a fettucine alfredo appetizer instead of the full portion.

What about my 10 year old DS? I know that he won't eat the adult stuff at the restaurants. He is a chicken nugget kid will they have a problem with that? I was going to save his TS meals for us to use at Chef Mickeys as an extra. Any ideas?

Wow, I must have been lucky, because I have ordered off the children's menu many times. The most recent was last year at Mama Melrose, Rose & Crown, and Boma. Twice it was for myself, and once for my then 18 year old son. The CMs never had a problem with it.

Good luck!

you simply cannot have you 10yo use the kids menu unless you lie. We are just back and my 11 yo eats NOTHING off the adult menus. He was sold and "adult" portion of kids food, but at adult prices. They ask how old you are at every opportunity. It just wasn't worth a few dollars to us to do anything but pay. It stinks. But it is just their policy now. Did it bug me to pay@ 23.00 for him to eat chicken nuggets and have an ice cream--yeah, but I was at WDW and I was having fun, so oh well!

Wow!!! That is unbelievable!!! If that is their policy now, I can honestly say that after our September trip (free dining), we won't be making many ADR's for Disney's table service restaurants. I am not paying $23 for chicken nuggets even if they do give you more. A kids size portion is the right amount even for my 13 DS - sometimes he doesn't even finish all of those!

I hope you have better luck than us, but that was our experience!

Have a great trip!

We are going to have the same problem with teenagers 14, 17. They do not like a lot of the grown up fancier foods at the more expensive restaurants. I got the dining plan this time because I don't want to pay $23 for chicken nuggets!!! All people are not big eaters. My DH and I plan on sharing at TS restaurants. Hope they don't frown on that too!! I'm thinking with the new dining plan, they might!!

i would double check. I thought I heard someone on the boards say that if you are using the dining plan you could not share, but if you were paying straight out, you could. I just woudn't want to plan on that and come up wrong!

We were in WDW late July and my 11 year old grandson did not have a problem when ordering off of the kids menu. Whenever we were seated the CM would ask what menu he wanted and he always took both. He made an effort to check the adult menu, but on several occassions he did order off of the kids menu (LeCellier, WCC, Plaza). We were never hassled or charged additional money. We did not do any buffets because of the age change (I was not willing to pay $23 for chicken nuggets at Chef Mickeys or Cape Mays). I find often I ask for a child's portion of an adult meal (pot roast at 50s Prime Time), but this is because I WANT desert and if I ate the adult serving then there would be no room. You will find that each restraurant will handle this situation differently. All you can do is be honest and upfront.

In June, my 12 year old ordered off the kids menu in every sit down restaurant we were (50's PTC, Marrakesh, WCC). He was charged adult prices at all the buffets, though.

Some great ideas!! True, I don't believe counter service will be a problem, table service might be. Great idea RyMickey had about ordering appetizers as meals! Thanks everyone!

I may be remembering this incorrectly, which if you knew me wouldn't seem that far fetched, but I thought I read somewhere (not here) that if a menu doesn't state an age then anyone could order from the child's menu.

I know that when we went several weeks ago, DD who is 11 and a tall one at that, was charged as an adult at every sit-down meal we ate at. Because of this new policy, we found that we didn't make nearly as many ADR's as usual. She doesn't eat very much and it was a sin to have to pay $28 for her to eat mac and cheese (about 1/2 c.) and some soft serve ice cream at CP for dinner. But we were hot and tired and I had made the ADRs and never cancelled them, so bit the bullet. But, in the future it will be counter service for us. At least until her palate grows up and she actually eats something adult!!

I do understand why Disney made this change. But, it would have been nice to have a third tier...say maybe a jr. rate. They must realize that there are a ton of kids in the 9-13 range that just don't eat much. Ah well.

This is all about the almighty dollar. They don't care if your kid doesn't eat a lot. That is why they charge so much. They are not trying to make meals convenient for their guests....just trying to make the most money!

Both my kids age 11 and 14 were given the option to look at both menus. We were not charged any extra if they ordered from the kids menu. ADR was made for 4 adults. I was asked if anyone in our party was over 9 but under 17.This was last week :)

This question doesn't really have to do with money as the adult would pay the adult buffet price.

At Hollywood and Vine buffet, is the children's buffet separate from the adult buffet? In other words, If an adult wanted to have some mac and cheese from the kids section, can they?

Ok im not exactly sure about other people and every place in WDW BUT i do know that you CAN order off the childrens menu. I am 13 years old and eat like an adult so I always order from the adults menu, not becuase I am older than 10. My mom got kids menu food alot and to tell you the truth, those portions are BIG compared to most places that give you kids. It was enough food for my mom. It was enough food for me also, when I ordered it. I found that sometimes it is better to get the kids menu because the adult menu is a rip off. That is because it is the same amount if food for kids and adults but they charge you like $2.50 more for adults. For example, when I was at the Polynesian at Cpt. Cooks for breakfast, my dad and I ordered The Big Kahuna and my mom and sister got The Lil Kahuna. It was the same amount of food. The adults only had 1 extra hashbrown which were very small. It costed more than 2 dollars just for that :earseek: . So sometimes it IS better to get kids. Btw, Kids menus are more expensive, usually, than regular places like Mcdonalds. Like I said, my mom got kids menus alot and nobody EVER said anything to her. Hope this helps!
