I'm happy to hear you're taking better care of yourself, Billie.

on 11lbs!!! More when I get back from DL. *hugs*
13 lbs as of today!

I hope you're loving
Disneyland!
Ok I kept meaning to get here to comment on your last update, but obviously I have not, so just gonna say real quick...
You got a Disney Dooney!!!! I'm so excited for you! I really like the pattern and how it represents all four parks. A girl's gotta splurge on herself every once in a while. Plus your Disney math was very logical.
Thank you for being an enabler! You're a good friend, Kelly!
In my opinion, no. I don't think the addition of Star Ward Land will ruin Disney Parks. And I'm not even a huge Star Wars person. When we were at HS last time I have to admit I wasn't too impressed. It was kinda sad to me the lack of attractions and excitement there. Now I know the opinion may be different to long time Disney visitors, but that was my first visit and I was just a little "meh" about it. I think HS can really use the resurgence of some exciting new stuff to help revive the park. Star Wars has such a huge following, it will be great for those who love it, I'll probably even sneak in and check it out too!
Oh, I agree, I think that it's going to be GREAT at Hollywood Studios. I question the decision to put it in Disneyland, though. That article makes some really good points about it. (Sadly, it's on another unofficial Disney info website that is apparently banned by the DIS, so my link didn't work.)
I'm totally with you about diets it's sucking and being happy with you. I have always admired you and your confidence. But with that being said that is some scary shisnit with your health and I'm super excited for your lifestyle change so that you can feel good. I'm all about "it's not what the scales tell me" but how you feel and I'm excited for you that you are starting to feel a difference already.
Yeah, but those shrinking numbers on the scale sure do feel good!
Edited to add.... Sorry I know the Dooney was on your TR, I got cornfused and cross referenced them
Hahaha, I didn't even notice your comment was on the wrong thread! I get what I post on them confused, too!
Congrats on the weight loss and doesn't everyone love BB-8?
Yes, everybody really does!
So awesome on the weight loss! That is a great start! Before I had bariatric surgery, I had to be cleared by a psychologist. He told me that addiction to food is one of the worst addictions to over come. Like a lot of other addictions you can't just quit cold turkey. I am glad you have found a diet that works with your losing weight but not make you miserable.
It's funny you say that. A girl who works at the office next to ours is quitting smoking, and I shared with her my weight loss, and even she was like "Girl, that's so much harder, because I don't have to be around cigarettes or smoke them if I have enough well power. You still have to eat and be around food and that makes it so so so much harder to stay on track." Which I think is kinda like what you doc said about food addiction being harder to overcome than other addictions!
Working on being better about taking your meds. That is good!
Blood pressure meds don't do you any good sitting on a shelf. I was having issues remembering to take mine so I set an alarm on my phone to remind me to take them. I also make sure I always have at least 2 doses in my purse incase I leave home and forget my pill organizer at home. Also the pill organizer helps a lot too depending on how many pills you have to take. I got 1 for morning and 1 for night time(which I keep on my night stand). I have a really bad memory (prolly all the meds I take lol)and will forget if I have taken my current dose. Using the organizers... I can check that days pills and see if they are gone.
What's been working for me is keeping mine right next to my recliner in the living room. I always go and sit there while I'm trying to wake up, and I've gotten in the habit of taking it while I'm chillin' there in the mornings. But you're absolutely right, I should put a few doses in my purse and also in my desk at work, that way if I leave the house and then realize I forgot to take it, I'm covered!
You are a great gal, Billie, and I love those times of life when something clicks and it's time to get something done. My favorite phrase is balance - I'm trying to make healthier choices too, but you are right, you have to have a balance of health and happiness. I'm glad that you didn't have health issues while at Disney because you've got a lot more Disney in your future! Here's to feeling good in 2016!
Exactly! Feeling good in 2016, indeed!
Exciting news re: your new style of eating and commitment to better health!
I have had my own struggles with weight and fitness since I was 14. It took me until I turned 30 to be okay with myself, but in my 40s I have started to deteriorate. My knees are garbage, but I can't do anything about them (not seriously, anyway) until I shed more pounds.
Same, so many of my health conditions would be helped be losing a significant amount of weight. And I'm finally just fed up with feeling awful physically. I'll never be pain-free, and I'll always have to do thinks like use an
ECV for things like Disney, but the least I can do for myself is try to feel better and have more energy!
I am a big fan of exploring until you find what works for you. I do better on a high protein diet myself, but what really works for me is tracking what I eat. I dusted off my handy dandy MyFitnessPal app when the new year started. This particular thread of yours inspired me to do it. Magic Kingdom and I turn 50 the same year and I want to celebrate by having a sumptuous trip to the World that year (perhaps when the Christmas decorations are up, but we shall see what Disney has plans for). To that end, I have more than 5 years to prepare my body for the best health I can give it and I am going to toast that health in MK!!
Exactly! And that's been my problem all along, I wasn't finding something that worked for me and my lifestyle. I think I finally have though, and that's EXCITING!!! (Speaking of sumptuous trips to Disney, when I get there in October, the diet is OFF just for that week, hahaha!)
As for Star Wars at Disney, I am an enormous fan, but DH is an enormous-er fan. Much of our travel over the next 10 years or so is Star Wars-centric. DH likes Disney, but he'll love it once Star Wars Land opens. Me? I am so ready to go to Pandora, first!
I'm on the fence about Pandora! I'm not going to bag on it, but I'm not super excited, either. I'm reserving judgement until I see the finished product!
Congrats in the weight loss and good for you for having the courage and strength to make a change. It is a very hard thing to do.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
OH, oh!! I got the chance to try the Kale Salad at Chick-fil-a yesterday! OMG!! It was so good! And I HATE KALE! I am going to be looking for a copycat recipe for this one...although I suspect the dressing on it is not allowed on Atkins...it tasted on the sweet side (but not sure of the carbs in it)
Hahaha. I've not tried the whole kale thing yet, but it's on the agenda! I'll have to check out that salad!
Yo know I think your success on this is AWESOME!!!
Thank you so much, Lynn!
I cannot begin to tell you how happy i am for you.. Like had a tear in my eye.
Awwww, Mo!
Losing weight had nothing to do with looks. Yet i saw how your health was deteriorating! Pretty soon you will see some of your aches and pains will go away (SLOWLY) Today is not my day the weather has taken it's nasty toll on me my back and knee is in sever pain... BOO.
Exactly! This time around, this has ZERO to do with what I see in the mirror, or trying to get a quality man, or any of the other dumb reasons I used to try to lose weight for. This is strictly about feeling better and having more energy and not DYING early!
I cannot agree more! Yes "dieting" has the worst food and YES you are MISERABLE!!! At least this this you have SO many options you normally eat! and BACON LOADS OF BACON! I might have clogged arteries but damn i enjoyed it! HA HA HA..
Bahahahaa! Exactly! But seriously, I'm not eating any MORE fatty foods than I was before starting the diet, but I'm eating a LOT more leafy green veggies! So I count that as a win!
My doc said that yes it will burn off.. BUT if you add a bit of exercise it will melt off..
Yeah i haven't started that yet.. HA HA!
Spoiler Alert: I have start exercising! But I'm saving writing about that for my next PTR update!
OK so the holidays? NOT A GOOD TIME for a change of healthy ways.. I need to get back ON the wagon. carbs were my BFF since November..
But that's the beauty of this. don't need to pay anyone don't need special frozen food that a rat wouldn't eat you just do it!!! LOVE IT!
Exactly! And that's exactly why even though I decided in mid-December that I was going to do this for myself, I waited until AFTER the holidays to start! Anything else would have been a recipe for failure for sure!
I am so so proud of you! and I almost didn't recognize you! you changed your avitar!!! LOL...
Yes, despite my weight loss, I'm looking a bit rounder these days...
He's my baby!
going to read the star wars article now..
Umm says web page not available?!?!
I had to post it on your Facebook!
Congrats on 11lbs. That's awesome!
Thank you so much!
Congratulations on a healthier you. I'm really proud of you for making a change. I hope you find the strength to stick with it. I know we're all here to support you.
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Congrats Billie!!!! Weight loss is so hard and so frustrating, I'm not a meat eater so weight watchers has always been my best friend when I need to lose weight, but the recipes are time consuming and the food isn't great, so I understand your struggle!! I'm glad you have found a diet that you are enjoying and that is working for you!!!
Weight Watchers is a great program! It wouldn't be a good fit for me now because I just found the points calculating and tracking to be so tedious and irritating. But I know it WORKS because I was on it when I was dating somebody who was on the plan too and did all the points counting for me, including all of our meal planning, and I lost 80 lbs over the course of about 2 years. (Then we broke up and I slowly gained it all back... Go figure!)
Congratulations on your weight loss Billie, I'm so pleased you're feeling better already and are taking your pills regularly
Thank you! I'm pretty pleased, too! Just hope I continue to behave and do the things I need to do!
So happy for you Billie! 11lbs in less than 3 weeks is AMAZING girl! Losing weight is incredibly difficult because it's such a mind game. Everywhere you go you just can't escape food.
Thanks! And it's TOTALLY a mind game! I was telling somebody earlier that this evening as I drove past Starbucks, I had a moment where I got super sad because I wanted SO BADLY to stop and get a venti caramel frap! But I consoled myself by thinking about the delicious guilt-free steak and mushrooms I would be cooking for dinner later, and then I felt much better!
I started a low-carb high-fat "diet" in March 2015 and have kept at it (have lost 75lbs...25lbs more to go!). It sure doesn't feel like a diet though. I'm never starving or cranky like with the countless other diets that I failed

. I'm eating tons and tons of veggies which I
never ever did before. I can eat lots of super delicious things and have even started baking low carb desserts now so my sweet tooth is satisfied. I've also made some low carb breads with coconut and almond flour.
75 lbs in just 10 months? Dude, that is AWESOME!!! Congratulations! That's inspirational, because my goal is to lose 70+ in time for my Disney trip in October!
Please let me know if you ever need any tried-and-true recipes or just want to chat about this whole low-carb thing

Remember, there will be good days and bad. There will be days when you cave to the smell of fresh-baked bread and have a big giant bite (or ten bites if you're like me

). The important thing is to KEEP GOING! Don't give up! This journey is so worth it
I"M CHEERING FOR YOU!
Hahaha! So far my willpower has been strong, and I've not slipped off the wagon! I know at some point I will (probably when there's cake in my general vicinity), but so far so good!
Congrats on the new Journey!
Very happy to hear your trying to be happy emotionally and physically!
Hugs to you and congrats on 11 pounds!
Thank you so much, Lauren!
Good for you! I feel your pain sister. I gain a pants size just looking at a Cheeto.
Good lord, yes. I drove past Starbucks tonight and gained a pound.
I think we are on the same diet "schedule"; my friend and I started about 2.5 weeks ago as well. We are using the Lose It! app and Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds video series. So far, so good. It keeps me accountable, and also gives me calories off for workouts.
She and I are both working towards a low-carb diet. I've gotten rid of most of the carbs in the house over the past couple weeks, so hopefully by the end of January it will all be gone and I can focus on low-carb only. I've got a Pinterest board called Yes, You Can Eat This that I'm quickly filling up with all kinds of good stuff. It's a good thing I love to cook! I'm down about 6 pounds since we started, so right on track.
6 lbs! That's great, congrats!!
I want to lose 40# before our June Disney trip. It will be nice to walk around 40# less than the last time I went.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean! I'm hoping for a 70# loss before my trip in October. I think it would be super neat to do a side-by-side comparison with last year's trip photos!
I've dealt with HBP for over 10 years. I take my rx when i get to the office in the morning, but on the weekends I tend to forget. I also started taking really good vitamins (thrive) and have cut out caffeine and pop completely. No coffee, no Pepsi. (This is a big deal for me. LOL)
Yes! I ordered a really good (but pricey) multivitamin from GNC tonight, and I'm completely off soda AND caffeine. That was the toughest part, and last step I took. It's SO DIFFICULT. But I only drink water now, morning noon and night!
Keep it up! You've got a great support system here on the boards. Hollar if you want to talk food glorious food or exchange recipes!
Thank you so much, girl!
Congrats on the new health journey!! Hope you have more continued success! I'd love to follow along with you on Facebook! Can you message me?
Thank you for the support, I appreciate it! As for FB, I typically only add folks from the Dis that I've been talking to a lot and we've been following each others adventures for a while. But please stick around, I'll definitely be posting updates about how things are going in my PTR here!
You're doing great already - congrats!!
Thank you so much, girl!
I think it's awesome that you're taking your health more seriously!! If you think Atkins is something you can sustain as a lifetime change in diet, then please stick with it (I'm a little neurotic about the "diet" vs. "lifelong change" thing) and hopefully you'll continue to see results! And I think that once you've got your weight under control you should talk to your doctor about doing a runDisney 5K.
Actually, a soft decision has already been made in regards to runDisney and 5k races... I'm saving that for my next PTR update, though!

(Hint: You should definitely shoot for attending next year's Princess weekend.

)
Congrats on the 11 pounds - that's a pretty awesome accomplishment! I'm so proud of you!!
Thank you so much, Sarah! (Psst... it's 13 lbs as of today!)
Congrats on the weight loss Billie! It sounds like you're on yet another amazing journey but instead of Disney its better health! (But you are still going to Disney anyways!!). I'm glad you are adjusting so well to the low-carb diet. It's so difficult since I love carbs but it sounds like it is working for you!! Can't wait to hear about more progress in the coming months!
Thank you so much, Su-Lynn! It's no walk in the park, but low carb is definitely easier for me than traditional diets! I'm thrilled to find a way to lose weight and still be HAPPY! I'll definitely continue to write about my progress here!
Hey Billie,
Firstly have to say that I'm in Florida now though sadly...about 4 hours away from Disney

( and it ain't very warm either lol. But I thought of you last night as I flew over the Carolinas lol.
Awww, well thank you for thinking of me!
I am sooo happy for you and all the changes you are making with diet and lifestyle. I know how incredibly hard it is...which is why I mostly live in denial like you did about the state of my health...ahem...must do something about that...uh...after I get home from FL...but I digress...
Hahaha. Denial is bliss right up until it isn't anymore, right?
OMG so...yes I may live in the arctic...but this is such a MAJOR reason I'm happy to be Canadian...I can not imagine having to search out a doctor because of an insurance plan...yikes! Doesn't compute...but I'm glad you found one and got yourself there!!
This is exactly why I've been considering immigrating to Canada for MANY years, too! But too much snow and too far from Disney! I'm spoiled! Priorities!
Way to go girl!! So proud of you!! You are doing so awesome. Also that salad you posted about on FB sounded really good. I actually really do love salads...but when someone else makes them they are 10 times better lol. Have you tried the Factory chopped salad at Cheesecake Factory? I have no idea if there is one near you but I just had this for dinner:
http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/menu/skinnylicious/salads/skinnylicious-factory-chopped-salad/ ....not sure if it's Atkins friendly but you could probably omit anything offensive in there...I LOVED this salad...maybe also because it is chopped to bite size and easy to shovel into my gob lol.
Sadly, there's no Cheesecake Factory near enough to me! But I do looooove choipped salads! Like you, I love that it all chopped and mixed up nicely! Subway actually has them now, and they're great! There's a subway across the street from my office, and I sometimes get them, usually with grilled chicken, lettuce, baby spinach, tomatoes, shredded cheese, and ranch dressing. OM NOM NOM.
Back to Disney....I see nothing wrong with a solo date to see Star Wars again. I would totally do it. In fact...maybe it's time lol
I'm actually considering going a third time... Is that weird?
This is totally where I am right now. The world says I should try to loose weight, but I'd rather run and eat cookies!
I feel you on the eating cookies. Especially right now... It's Girl Scout cookie time and I CAN'T HAVE ANY.

Time to go console myself with bacon...
Like BACON! Your diet sounds awesome!
It's the BEST "DIET" EVER.
Also, this has notching to do with food, but I told my DP yesterday that I was in love win your "princess no pants" tag line. I wear my running leggings everywhere I can (and I am no skinny Minnie) because....
BAHAHAHAAA! I love this!! You still have better tolerance than me, though... Even leggings feel like leg prisons to me!

If it were socially acceptable, I would just wear my nightgown EVERYWHERE I GO.
