We may try the dining plan for the first time on our next trip, and I'm unclear on a couple things. It will be me, DH, DS 11 and DD 9. DS 11 we will have to pay the adult price. He's a very picky eater and I don't want to waste an adult credit on his meal. Can I pay out of pocket for him or have him share a kid's meal with DD, and save his table service credit? DH and I were thinking the two of us will go to Cali. Grill one night, and we could use his extra credits. Also, does the receipt distinguish adult credits versus child credits? I'm thinking it might be hard to keep track how many of each are left.

Thanks! :)

Yes you can pay OOP or have him share a meal. Since you will be paying the adult price for his credits you can certainly use those credits for yourself and your DH at a later time. As it stands now there is no distinction on receipts which displays adult vs. child credits. You may want to keep a little piece of paper with you to keep track or write down on the back of each receipt how many credits you have used. It really isn't hard to keep track of.

Hope this helpful (not sure why the popcorn was necessary  )

Thanks, HayGan!

I'm not sure what the popcorn means. Am I missing something? :confused3

We plan on doing this with our DD11. She was told she could order whatever she likes, from either menu. There is controversy over people using child credits for adult meals. (which is flat-out wrong) But I can't see why there would be any problem in people wanting to use adult credits for adult meals only. :confused3

Oh for pete's sake. The popcorn guy is representative of someone waiting to see how this thread plays out. This subject can be a very hot button issue.
I didn't know I had to ask permission to use it. I'd like to know what the real answer is.

People with flame-throwers, make sure you read the OP's entire post at least twice before posting rude comments.

As long as you are paying OOP for his dinner, you can do whatever you want with his ADULT credit! You paid for the credit--it is yours to use how you please!!!!! I don't think that a child meal will be enough for a DD9 and a DS11. Depending on where you eat, you should be able to get him an appetizer and order of fries or something for around $10. Most all restaurants have burgers and chicken fingers, the staple of all kids appetites!

I am still amazed that there are 11 year old boys who are picky eaters! I thought boys would eat anything--and lots of it!

Anyway, you asked a very good question and I hope you get some more great answers!

P.S. I posted once about how we used leftover credits and got roasted like a spit-fired chicken! I wasn't clear about the ages of my children so some of the DDP Police thought I used child credit for adult meals--NOT the case. Anyway, you can expect some mean, hurtful comments from the DDP Police but just ignore them! :)

Aww. I think that is just mean. It is like you enjoy watching people get roasted for asking a simple question! And you are a mother! What if your child had asked the question, would you be eating your popcorn then?

The OP isn't trying to break a rule--if she wanted to do that she wouldn't have offered the idea of paying OOP for her DS!

Talk about mean! How dare you imply I would do something rude to my child! I don't think the popcorn guy is rude. I see him at least 10 times a day on these boards and no one has ever taken the time to hijack the thread to talk about him.
For the record, I agree with the OP! I don't think she's breaking any rules and I would do the same if I could. However we both know there are probably people on here waiting to pounce on her and I have every right to get involved.
If he offends some of you so much, stay away from the CB...

HAHAHAHAHA!!! You guys are debating the little popcorn guy!!! I have now seen it all!!!!

OP - At this time there is nothing to show how many of your credits were spent on adult versus child meals. I personally have my dining all planned out, but if something changes, I won't worry about what kind of credit I have left... I'll just prolly pick something up in the food court on our way out. It's up to you if you want to keep track, but I won't be.

Thanks for your help, everyone! I think it will work out fine. I know, it's terrible to have an 11 YO boy be such a picky eater. We struggle with it daily! :sad2: I just didn't want to waste all that food. I think we will just pay OOP for him and try to keep track of the kids credits for DD.

Thanks again! :)

Well, you were quick to throw it out there without even reading the OP's post. If you would have read it carefully there was absolutely nothing controversial about it. The OP's question was answered very easily.

It is better to offer advice than throw out invitations for debate.

jakenjess, I hope you have a clearer understanding of the dining plan now. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask :)

I also have an 11yo ds...and at some places he'll happily eat an appetizer, entree and dessert from the adult menu. Other places he might want a kids' meal. In those instances I'll order him a kids meal and pay for it out of pocket.

I do want to put out one caveat on banking your childs' adult credits....it has been reported that wait staff have questioned if a group uses more adult credits than adults listed for their group...even if they have banked these legitimate adult meals (they can't tell). It doesn't sound like the OP will be in this situation, but its the one instance where it seems as if people have been treated as if they're doing something underhanded when they are not. I think this could really only happen if you're trying to treat other adult friends to a meal on your dining plan....

I have heard of people doing this, but we won't be in this situation. We will be with extended family, but everyone will have their own dining plan. We'll also be using DS's adult credits obviously for a couple character meals or buffets, but for the other TS meals I'll order OOP for him and DH and I can use the extra credits for Cali. Grill.

Thanks so much everyone!

Sounds like the OP has the "answer" and this thread can be locked before anybody else uses flamethrowers.
