I know my situation might be a little unique with my leg, but I'm assuming some other ladies over 40 are maybe not fond of some of the shorts I see in stores now. What do you pack for Disney during the warmer months? This will be my first trip since my accident, and I do need to wear a farrow wrap (looks sort of like a strong compression sleeve) on my calf full time to contain the swelling in my leg due to lymphedema caused by the surgery I needed to repair my fractures. At home, I do not wear shorts or skirts above the knee without leggings as I'm pretty self-conscious of both the lymphedema and the large scars on both sides of my leg. I've only tried wearing shorts once on a Princess cruise since the accident and a couple of women stared and made some pretty rude comments so I haven's shown the leg since.

I'm worried about being miserable in the heat though in long pants. I do have some wicking-type pants, and some linen jogger-type pants but we don't have Florida-type humidity even in August here in Minnesota. I have quite a few lightweight tops so that probably shouldn't be a problem. For shoes, I'm planning to bring my New Balance fresh foam as they are the most comfortable for me plus a backup pair and a pair of sandals. It's mostly the bottoms where I'm struggling with what to pack.

The linen and any breathable material should be comfortable if you must wear pants. I would not worry about comments. Just be as comfortable as you can be.

i found a coupole of Old Navy jumpsuits that I absolutely LOVE. I friend of mine had one on and I commented on it. I tried it on and - it was so comfortable ! I am very self conscious of my stomach, but the jumpsuit is cut that it is not bad at all. I went home and ordered one in every color.

Have fun and stay cool and hydrated. :)

I too have a huge scar - mine from TKR. Without modern medicine, I'd not be able to walk at all! Some of those that stared at you may be faced with some type of disfiguring surgery at some point in their lives. I find that many people don't understand disability until it happens to them or someone they love!

Would crop pants work for you? Try landsend.com as they have a great selection of clothing and pants with different lengths. Make sure you read the reviews for fit. Do a search for coupon codes. They often have 50% off and free ship over $99. Appleseeds.com also has lots of crop pants - again, read reviews. They too have coupon codes so don't pay full price.

Best of luck and ENJOY your trip!

Thank you. Yes, I have found some good things from landsend.com before, especially their swimsuits. I have to try crop pants as I'm 5' 3" so it's a matter of making sure they hit me at the right spot. I might need to order a few styles and see what works.

I'm used to people staring a bit at the wrap as it's somewhat visible generally even through most pants. I'm ok with people who ask what happened or ask what the wrap is for even. The 2 ladies on the cruise and 1 man locally are the only people I've encountered in the 2 1/2 years since my accident that I felt where it was something other than curiosity so I'm happy that most people are kind. Good to hear you had good results with your TKR. I will have one in my future but I'm trying to hold off as long as I can. I'm really looking forward to my trip overall.

I like to wear dresses or skirts at Disney when it’s warmer. Much cooler for me than pants or shorts. what about a midi skirt?

I had worn a lot of dresses and skirts before my accident during the warmer months. My wrap comes almost to my ankle though. I am going to bring a dress or two for dinners, but I'm thinking it might be a little warm during the day as I usually wear lightweight leggings over the wrap under the dress.

I love dresses but not for theme parks and I don't wear shorts, so I always wear cropped leggings. I make sure anything I wear is cotton, that's the key to surviving in Florida humidity for me. It is going to be hot, but if your clothes are breathable, it makes it so much more tolerable.

Here's something to think about. I am an older woman with some walking and standing issues, and use a scooter for theme parks, etc. This leaves my legs a little more vulnerable to sunburn - and I DO sunburn if I'm not careful. Long pants of a lightweight cotton or other breathable fabric have been my go-to in warmer weather. In Florida, heat and humidity are going to be a bit uncomfortable no matter what you wear. Long pants give you more protection from sun - and make sitting on rides better than having bare skin on the seat!

I bring all loose-fitting, wide-legged either jersey-knit or soft cotton-blend capris and pants. The pants I have can go casual or dressy, and the flowing fabric keeps me cool. On my big parky-park days, it's the capris usually paired with a light shirt or a cooling shirt. I get it all off Amazon.

I'm 46, and have OA in my knees and in one ankle. They get swelly when they're irritated, so I like to cover them.

Also, I don't do shorts. Shorts belong to my 20's and 30's. :earboy2:

I plan on wearing dresses I purchased from Ambrie.com with bike shorts under. I’ll be bringing a couple of pairs of jeans and some shirts just in case, but I’m as light as a ghost and could use a tan so I am not worried about sun exposure 😆

First, so sorry to hear about your problems but sounds like you are turning a corner. Second, I wouldn't worry about what anyone else says or any looks you might get. I assure you the people looking or making comments have some issue themselves and let's face it, you will never see these people again. But, if it really bothers you, how about some light weight flowing maxi dresses. Allows the air to come up and are a little less restricting than long pants. I'm in my 60s and height challenged so it's hard for me to find maxis or even capris that are actually capris so I go with tennis and golf skorts with pockets (I hate carrying a bag). Am I too old to wear shorter things, maybe in some people's mind but since I'm height challenged they come almost to my knees and are certainly no shorter than 2 inches above my knees, so I don't worry about it.

I’m sorry people made comments and stared...some people are just rude.

I wear pants like this in summer and have always found them cool and comfortable, and they don’t get all tangled up like a skirt. I’m not graceful enough to wear a skirt in the park.

I really like Coolibar clothing. They are actually a line of SPF clothing and I need it for the protection from the sun but they are nice and cool. I believe the only place you can buy it is on their website. www . coolibar . com

Good luck

I bought these pants for our upcoming camping trip, post Disney. We're heading down to Collier Seminole state park to hike and kayak. I just received them today, and they are AMAZING. So lightweight, great pockets, built for a women's body and SPF 50. I'm buying a bunch more! I put them on, and immediately thought of you. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FXLFZHS

I’m sorry if people have made you feel uncomfortable. That is not okay. Wear what makes you feel good. I dislike shorts just because I don’t like the way my legs look, so I resisted them for a long time. But a few years ago I decided to let it go and be comfortable during hot weather (especially at Disney). So if you want to wear shorts, do it. I really think most people don’t pay much attention to what others are wearing, honestly.

But if you don’t want to, loose linen pants would probably be the most comfortable in the heat. I have an Old Navy jumpsuit like someone else mentioned and it very light and comfortable.

OMG how awesome are these,,,,I need a pair...thanks for the info

I'm sorry people were rude and stared/made comments. I can see how that would make you self-conscious.

Maybe a cropped legging? It'll hide most of the sleeve, and you can find them in athletic/wicking fabrics.
