Hello, I have kids 18, 20 and 22,

we did australia a few years back and want to do another abd. my daughter suggested an adults only tour however, i'm a little nervous that then you miss out on some of the fun stuff. i'd like some input on how the adult tours are different than the family ones.

thanks!

The Adults only trips I've been on have been virtually identical to the family trips, according to our Guides. On Southwest Splendors, the only difference was we didn't have a Jr Adventurer's movie night. We just were allowed to go to the restaurant at the Red Cliffs Lodge & order anything we wanted off the menu for that night. On the Alaska tour, the only difference was no Jr Adventurer's activity night, and we took a tour & had lunch at a local brew pub in Anchorage instead of going to lunch at the Sourdough Mining Company & visiting Alaska Wildberry Products. Everything else on both itineraries was the same. We did the arts & crafts projects, etc.

I really enjoy the Adults Only trips.

Sayhello

I did adult only London/Paris and our guide said the difference was no scavenger hunt at the Louvre (which I couldn't imagine anyway as packed as it was there) and there was no adventurer movie night.

Australia 2009, no young adventurers movie night, the guides ate dinner with us. Plus wine at the dinner at the Ayers Rock Resort.

We were on the adults only trip to Peru and learned from our guides that on the family trips, guinea pig and alpaca are not mentioned as food sources and we would not have had the chance to try them. They let the kids think that the guinea pig "farms" that all the locals have are for pets not as livestock. We feel we would have missed out on that experience if we had not done the adults only trip.

In 2009 on the Peru trip our daughters tried and ate the guinea pig...it was discussed throughout the trip.

The "craft" type activities may not be offered on an adults only trip. On our Peru trip, the guides were originally only set up for the three kids. When almost all the adults said they wanted to participate, the guides took a deep breath and said okay, but changed the schedule time around a bit. They also had a different program for eating one evening. Adults learned about the alcohol drink Pisco, and prepared Pisco sours. The kids went through all types of Peruvian fruit juices. My wife, who has a medical reaction to alcohol, was grateful for a diversionary activity. On our previous trips my DD's brother (older by 10 years) ended up wanting to do the "kids" stuff as well, even though he was 20.

The smaller groups tend to work better too. Join us on the April 24 ,2011 South Africa trip!
