We normally travel in the summer when WDW has afternoon storms. A few times, the lightning was so intense. I was glad we could stay in our resort and didn't have an ADR which required traveling.

I don't mind going out in the rain, but lightning really scares me. My child is also very scared. It's really danagerous.

What do you do when you have an ADR and a lightning storms starts? Especially at Epcot, where you could have a very long walk from the bus drop off to your restaurant.

Thunder/lightening storms generally pick up in the mid to late afternoon in Orlando. So, if you have an ADR in Epcot at these times, I would just plan on getting to Epcot earlier than usual. Be close to wherever your ADR is...then you can head there sooner, rather than later. Is it convenient? No, maybe not. But, it will allow you to get to your ADR ontime, and not get stuck in a storm.
We've been caught in some nasty storms down there during the warmer months....beautiful unless you have to get from point A to point B within a certain time frame!!!

If the restaurant had a credit card hold you don't have the option of skipping it without paying the no-show penalty. So for those it would be best to keep an eye on the weather and go to the restaurant early if needed.

We were once caught in a horrific storm on a bus going from our resort to DTD for a dinner ressie at T-Rex for our DS's birthday dinner. The bus pulled into the DTD bus stop and we HAD to get off in this storm. There was no place to go - we were sort of in a parking lot area or something. We put ponchos on while on the bus and attempted to use umbrellas while we were walking into DTD but the wind was too bad. Our ponchos blew up & we were literally soaked up to our butts and we had to walk in water that was over the tops of our ankles it was so deep 'cuz it was raining that hard. The lightening was fierce and all around but there just wasn't any shelter anywhere so we plugged along. This was in May, not summer BTW so it can certainly happen any time of year. If there had been a place to stop we would have tried to wait it out for awhile but this time there was nothing.
