Tried to book the new character breakfast at the boardwalk 180 days + 7 for our trip, but was already full. From reading online it looks like people book 12 day trips to get the expanded adr window and then just cancel the second half of their 12 days. Kinda smart, kinda annoying. Does anyone else do this?

I haven't heard of that, but isn't it 180 +10 for all onsite guests?

It's only 180+10 not 180 plus the length of your booked stay. They have to wait to start booking until they are 180 days from the check in date and then can book up to 10 additional days from that date.

From what I find it's not uncommon for restaurants to not even be loaded into the system and to think or even be told that they are full. Keep checking during the next week or two. And people will cancel so you might pick up a reservation later.
