Hi,

I have a question about making ADR's,

I assuming that having a table size for say 4 people, and showing up with 6 people would be a major problem (ie: may not get a table)

BUT, what about the other way around? Is it okay to reserve a table a bit larger than you may need. Like a table for 6, and only 4 people show up?

TIA!

For some reason, last summer just about all our ADR were made for 4 people. I KNOW I only booked for 2, myself and my dd. I guess the cm making the reservations somehow put 4 on them all. We had no problem though. Everytime we got to a restaurant and I'd give my name, they'd say, table for 4.. and I'd say no.. just 2. The only ones that were right were the rescheduled ones.
So, I don't think it'd be a problem.

That was I was hoping. I made some ADR's for a table of 6. In case my sister & BIL want to eat with us. If not, we will still be 4 people eating together.

Thanks!

It can be difficult for groups of 5, 6, etc. to get tables as opposed to 3 or 4. If you book for 6 I'd try to cancel back to 4 as soon as you know. A family of 5 may very well simply be told sorry no availabilty if you hold a rarer table for 6 when you could be accomodated with a table of 4, which there is greater availability. You will likely see this when you start to make your ADRs for 6, options will be much slimmer than if try to book for 3 or 4.

Yes, I thought of that. In fact, I just made all my ADR's for our September trip, exactly 180 days out, and at LeCellier I was only able to get a table for 4, not 6. So they go FAST!
I also always cancel any ADR's I know I'm not using so that others have a chance to make one.
Honestly though, for at least a couple of the nights, I won't know until after we arrive whether they are eating with us, so I will have to keep the table for 6.
I try to plan everything out as much as possible..but when other family members are involved you can't always get a 100% positive answer, ya know?
