Curious if there are any tips or strategies to getting an ADR at Sci-Fi. I originally planned a trip for April and got one at the 180 day mark. We have rescheduled our trip to September recently but that means we missed the 180 day window.

My strategy has been basically two-fold:

1. Using website to search usually once or twice a day
2. Set up an alert through my touringplans account but the one time it alerted me to an open ADR I still couldn't book one.

Any other ideas? Is there a difference between using the Disney site and using the MDX app?

the touring plans app does not search continuously. It searches every 30-40 minutes, IIRC. So if an ADR is important to me, I search frequently (way more than once or twice a day) as well as doing the touring plans alert.

Personally I just hop on the app randomly throughout the day.
Not sure what your party size or date is but I have found that over the last 6-8 months its quite easy to get an ADR for Sci-fi.
For a few years it had been quite difficult to get but now not as much.

For Sci-Fi, I always go for odd times like between 2:00-4:00. I check numerous times. I have used both the app and the website. I have been successful many times. We usually end up getting ressies around 3:30, but we did score a 5:00 pm one time. Ironically, that was the time we had the most people on our reservation!

Good luck!

You definitely have your bases covered and something should more than likely show up especially with all the uncertainly going on right now. We don't usually make ADRs until a day or two in advance and have eaten at SciFi more times then I can count. So people cancel all the time

This is us as well except we tend to make them day of. We have actually had luck walking up to Sci-fi about 45 min. before they open and getting on a waiting list. It helps that there are only 2 of us and we don't care if we are in a car or a table in the back. Frankly, Sci-Fi is a can't find anywhere else to eat type place for us.

I had luck around the 60day mark getting a prime lunch ADR. I think people were cancelling trips and their ADRs

There are four of us and we are in the parks Fri, Sat, Sun, of Labor Day Weekend. I'm gonna try the app and see if that makes a difference.

DH and I were able to easily get an ADR the day before over Labor Day weekend last year. I think I only had to search once the evening before we wanted to go and there were a couple times available.

I think the problem is the party of 4. I searched for parties of two and found plenty.

Keep working the app. Best times are off times. In January we took an 820 with park close at 8. No wait, seated right away. Still full in there but was easier to get. Sci Fi is always a tough get. If you do a walk up you get the tables in back and not a car unless you get lucky. It’s fun place, food is ok, shakes are great. 50s Primetime is also popular and tough to get. At Sci Fi we do early lunch around 1130 and earthier early mid afternoon diner or late diner.

I have found that, in the off chance I can't get what I want in all of my app-checking before my trip, if I look 1-3 days before the day I want the reservation, it is often there. People often hoard reservations, then cancel them a day or two before they have to. Lots of things open up then.

As a PP mentioned, 60 days prior is a good time, also. People book a bunch of reservations because they don't know when their fastpasses will be. After they get their fastpasses, it is easier for them to schedule everything in a way that works for them.

If you are diligent and determined, there is a very high chance you will get what you want.

I would second what Atlanta said. I book multiple ADRs until my FP are set just in case my plans change which they always do. I try to release extras as soon as I can but sometimes that is not until the week before. So if you stay on it you likely can get one. Good luck!

TP was able to book my ADRs for my entire trip last year I went. Ohana, Kona, SciFi, and California Grille. It was incredible!

Just booked Sci-Fi!!!

Thanks everyone for your help and ideas. Checking a few more times each day did the trick!!
Hope you enjoy.
The food is good. Really love the atmosphere and really good shakes.
The bad 50s movies are so much fun.

I love Sci-Fi. It gets a bad rap around here, but it's nostalgia factor (not just the movies on the screen) help me hold on to those childhood memories each time I go to HS (or MGM, rather!).

Enjoy!

Congrats! You will love it - its a super fun atmosphere, and the burgers and shakes are so yummy! Yeah, the trick is just to keep on checking whenever you have a chance and fiddling around with the times when you do. Have fun on your trip!!
