Has anyone ever had an ADR right before a restaurant closes? I just booked a 9:50 ADR at 'Ohana, and Allears.net says it closes at 10:00.

Is there anything weird or rude about having an ADR so close to closing time? There were a few earlier spots available. Should I try to get an earlier time?

Being left coasters, we often take these very late ADR's. The only thing different is that it is often quieter as your meal progresses and the restaurant empties out.

Shouldn't be an issue at 'Ohana which has the same menu for everyone.

We had a late reservation at Le Cellier one year and they had run out of the Maple Creme Brule which was a major disappointment for my youngest son.

I would opt for an earlier time. 10 minutes before the restaurant closes, you are likely to get tired servers, kitchens that might be out of something by the end of the night, you might feel rushed....

I don't have any experience with this, but I just listened to a podcast about this subject. All of the people on the panel had dined very late at night and none reported any problem. They did not feel rushed and enjoyed walking out at night into a near empty park.

I recently called for an ADR at Boma for breakfast. I asked what was the latest time slot that I could book: 15 mins before close. I had great, warm food, there were no "holes" on the buffet. My server was very attentive, in fact he had to look for me as I kept going back to the buffet for a little of this a little of that :rotfl: . We also had a late ADR at Chef Mickey's a couple of years ago an had a similar breakfast experience with the food and characters.

Yeah, but that's the thing. I'm vegan, and my boyfriend is vegetarian. So we'll be needing a "special" meal at 'Ohana. I think I'm going to try for an earlier time, since this seems like it would be a big inconvenience for the restaurant at such a late time. :worried:

I would think if they gave you a reservation for that time the kitchen is open and they will make whatever you need. If the kitchen is closed, it would be closed for all, at least that how I would think. I know they prepare there, but if the reservations are being given out for that time they have to be prepared that some may need something special to eat whether allergies or whatever..

They plan for this... The closing time is more or less the last time available to seat a guest. Although they say they "close" at 10, the kitchen expects to be getting orders up to 45min-1hr after that and the resturant wait staff would not be expecting to be out of there till midnight anyways.

They will fill all ADRs anyways, and will have people in there that late either way... So I say you are fine with the time selected.

Also, ordering something Vegan, you have a much less chance that they have run out of what you want.

That's true. I just called and got a reservation for 9:10, so I'm much happier with this. I think we'll still have time to watch the Electric Water Pageant on the beach at 9:00 (assuming it doesn't last over 10 minutes) and rush to 'Ohana afterwards. The worst thing is we might me a few minutes late, but getting there 45 minutes before closing feels much better than getting there 10 minutes before closing. :goodvibes

Thank you for letting me know this! I just called and got a 9:10 ADR. While I see now that having a 9:50 time slot wasn't such a bad thing, I do feel better with the 9:10.
