There needs to be like a 40 sentence disclosure about how buying a DVC contract, especially a resale contract that you will experience onset of Addonitis, what it is and the symptoms and side effects.

I finally dipped my toes in the water this spring with our first contract and I just now got acceptance on my fourth contract in 5 months. Yet I am still believing I need more, MORE points.

Any one here with any recommendations as to how to slow the spread of addonitis?

I can completely relate to this - my first resale contract was in February…followed by four more. Then in June, I decided to buy 300 direct at RIV. I think I’m good for now - and toying around with the idea of selling one of my resale - so maybe buy some POLY and call it a day?! Anyway, you’re not alone!

Just here showing support. I dont know how to make it stop. I started out being "totally fine" with 1 contract at 100 points, now I am up to 4 contracts and 613 points.

Don’t worry, your bank will slow it down, or when you find you can’t use them all.

I just start thinking about the dues and how much more they'll be in 5-10 years, that usually stops me.

Don’t let future dues scare you, you can always just sell when they get too much. BUT… dues may be a nice wake up call each year. lol

I love saving money, I often spend money to save money. HAHA! I am excited when I look at my spreadsheet and see how much I will save on dues by collecting Disney Gift Cards. I will need $5200 for my dues. Currently my stack is at a 15.9% savings. So as of now I would need to only spend $4373. I spent $ at Aulani so I will need to collect more, hopefully I can get that % up higher by January.

I did the calculation on the dues and at 555 points over 3 resorts, its enough to hold me back for at least a year!

My experience is that a big part of the mania is the chase - the hunt for contracts and deals. Once you own the points, it's a little anti-climactic because what you have left is the dues. Of course you enjoy the points too and booking some incredible trips, but that high is not as high as the one you got when chasing the points to begin with. Just my $0.02.

Wow, I’m impressed. How did you save 15.9%? I have gotten Disney Gift Cards at 10% off but that’s the most and it’s usually limited. I would love to know your tips and tricks because I love saving money too!!

The 15.9% is a combination of various deals. Some offers are much lower % than others. My biggest % the last round was a Target deal. I keep a spreadsheet of the savings for each purchase to get an overall, once I go on a trip I remove the GC's spent and continue adding new purchases so I know my % savings for each trip.

This recent trip the savings were from.

Target 5% debit card stacked with the bonuses they offer from time to time and shopping portal cb
Grocery store 6% cb credit card and fuel points savings.
Walmart 5% Discover cb stacked w/ shopping portal cb.
Chase cards had many offers at Staples for 10% back then stacked w/ shopping portal cb.
Office Depot Prepaid Visa offer stacked w/ a bonus from Chase and/or Credit card that has 5% cb at office stores, then taking those prepaid Visas and purchasing discounted Disney cards at Sam's Club.
