Adding two people to an ADR help

Hi, everyone,

So, we're going to WDW next weekend. Our party is 9 people. My brother-in-law just surprised us saying that he and his girlfriend will be down for the first weekend.

I already set up ADRs, but I don't know if I can add him. Its breakfast at Crystal Palace and Breakfast at Chef Mickeys.

Has anyone run across this?

A res for two for crystal palace popped up the other day for 9AM. Our res is at 845AM. I tried to just add 2 to our reservation, but it wouldn't let me. I then tried to just set up a res for 2 at 9 and it wanted to replace my res for 9 at 845. It seems like there isn't even a mechanism in place. I called, but someone the slot was gone by the time we got there.

I'm also wondering if we show up with 2 extra people, will they accommodate? Probably depends on who you get and how busy the restaurant is. Just wondering if anyone had experience.

Thanks

To make a reservation for someone else either call or make a "ghost" MDE account.

You can always try to show up with more but depending on how busy they may not be able to accommodate more.

I would log into another My Disney experience account and make a reservation for 2 or call DW to try to change the ADR. As long as the ADR is within 15 to 30 minutes they would sit you together. I do this with me and my DH - we both have accounts and we make two reservations if we have a large party or if more people end up coming.

If you show up with 2 people you are not guaranteed that they will seat them. I hope that helps.

You will need a reservation for everyone who will be dining to guarantee that all of you will be seated. Try looking for a reservation for 2 as close as possible to your current 8:45 reservation. When you check in ask if you can all be seated together. It is only a request and the castmembers will do their best, but you may have to wait longer, you may be seated near each other or if it is very busy you may end up at separate tables.

Because you already have a reservation at 8:45 the system will not let you book another reservation at 9:00. You will need to book it with another MDE account (does your BIL have an account?) or create another account. You can also call and book it on the phone, but as you found, reservations go quickly.

It could not add two to your current reservation for 9 because what was available was a table for two. When you tried adding it to your current reservation, the system said it wasn't possible because there was no table for 11 available.

Is the 8:45 reservation pre-park opening? If it is, then even more you will want a reservation as close to 8:45 as possible. If you book the res for your BIL after park opening they might not be able to enter with you.

You need a reservation for everyone in your party to guarantee that you will be seated. If you show up with two extra in your party, the castnmembers will do their best to accommodate, but it is always possible that they will be turned away. Also, if this is a pre-park opening reservation, castmembers at the dining reservation entry point might only allow people on the reservation to enter.

Showing up with extras should always be your very last resort! You will need to keep checking for an ADR to open up, either one that will fit everyone, or one for the extras at a time close to your current reservation. Go to Touringplans . com and sign up for their ADR finder. I've had it work wonders for me in the past.

If nothing works, you can always try and see if the extras can be seated, but there is no guarantee. Would they be ok going off on their own for that time? If you decide to walk away from your reservation then and there it is treated as a no show and you will be charged the per person fee, so there is that to consider too.

Set up another MDE account and look for an ADR for two that is very close to your ADR. Ther eis never a gaurantee your entire party will be seated together, so I figure it is no harm no foul if the party of two cannot be seated with your original party.

THe last resort, as others have indicated is to simply show up with two extra people. You may be faced with an awkward decision. Good Luck!

I want to add that I have always been able to make these kinds of changes when surprised with extra folks. It takes a little time but usually can be done.

We have a similar situation where we made a reservation for 6, then someone changed their mind and decided to go, so now we are seven. Since my cousin made the reservation, I was able to make a separate reservation than her for 2. Unfortunately they are 30 minute apart for Beaches & Cream, but I may cancel that and let them eat there while I go off on my own for a bit.

I had to add 4 people to 3 person reservation once. I called WDW and they were able to add the extras, no problem.

Back from my trip, thought I would update everyone on how this worked out.

It was super easy. I set up an alert on touring plans reservation finder. It found a seating for 2 at 8:50, so we grabbed that.

When we got to he restaurant, they checked us both in and found a big enough table no problem. It just took a couple extra minutes.

One thing to note, we had to do the same for chef mickeys the next day. A space for 2 showed up for the same time and MDE let us actually adjust our actual reservation and add 2 more - instead of 2 reservations. I just found it interesting that it let you do that.

THE QUESTION OF AN EXTRA PERSON or EXTRA PEOPLE (the "411"):
1) Disney is getting wise to the "but, they decided to join us" or "I miscounted".
2) People can't always get the ADR they want.
3) So, they under-count to get a table.
4) Then, they show up with "unexpected" additional people.
5) In a team meeting, CM's have been told to warn guests against this.
6) If there is room, WDW will not turn away revenue.
7) But, if busy, they will turn away the additions.
8) Go ahead and arrive with the extras, if you like.
9) Just be prepared to have someone stand around while you eat.
10) I have heard explanations such as . . .
. . . "but, Aunt Suzy decided to join us and we need an extra seat"
. . . "but, two friends from off-site decided to join us and we need two extra seats"
. . . "but, brother-in-law decided to join us and we need an extra seat"
. . . "but, the entire Boy Scout Troop decided to join us and we need 14 extra sets"
. . . "but, my baby is so small that I didn't count her in the number of eaters"
.
NOTE1: It is far easier going from an odd-number to an even number, such as from 7-people to 8-people, adding a person to an even number of diners, such as going from 6-people to 7-people. Adding odd person can mean adding a table, and this might not be possible. Going from an odd-to-even might only mean adding a chair or using an empty seat. So, if going from even-to-odd, you might not get the extra person a seat. It is always better to get another ADR with the proper people-count.
.
NOTE2: Frequently a party-of-two will try to add a third person at the podium. This can be risky, because many eateries do have tables-for-two. If the guest was slated for one of these, there simply might not be a table available to seat the third person - even if an infant. The extra chair location might extend into an aisle and block access for other guests or Servers.
.
NOTE3: Sometimes it is a threesome adding a fourth. Unfortunately, there are many eateries that do have 3-top tables - usually against a wall or pillar. They can't add a fourth chair, since that would invade the aisle and be unsafe for SERVERS.
.
NOTE4: The final question is that of how many people are in the eatery. There are Fire Codes which dictate the maximum amount of people. If the capacity is exceeded, there are some big fines possible. And, Disney will not violate the max-capacity of an eatery.

We've had this happen several times due to some of our family in FL last minute joining us for dinner. They've almost always been able to accommodate. Once we were at Disney, we called the restaurant directly and asked and they took care of it. We've also showed up before and they've also accommodated us if it's only 1-2 people.

Basically you have to go into MDE and click on "Change Reservation". Change the number of people and click search. If there are available tables, it will pop up with times. If there is no capacity, you are out of luck. As RustyScupper has listed, there are several reasons why a restaurant cannot accommodate "extras", not the least of which is the fire codes and the safety of servers and other patrons (tripping over a chair that isn't suppose to be there).

We had a similar situation where my parents decided to join us for our upcoming trip after all ADRs had been made. Going from 4 to 6 wasn't a big problem even though I did have to adjust some of our times. The only one that took some work was BOG. I had to check every day, multiple times a day for about 6 weeks to try to get that one "fixed". It finally worked out but before we could find a table for 6 during our dates, I had to make them an ADR for 2 at a different restaurant at about the same time.

Best of luck to you and just keep trying/checking availability. Things open up last minute.
