Adding Some Disney Magic To A Warrior's Year Of Wishes!Update Chiefs PICTURES 8/10

I know I have been absent for a long time but I am back and ready to start posting. I have lots of news and lots to post about. Next up the first of our Disney Family Nights!

Saturday afternoon Jenna suddenly got really into the idea of Disney movie nights and decided she wanted our first one right away. To start off our Disney Family Nights we chose "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" at the last minute. Mostly because Tessa saw it among our movies and realized how long it had been since she watched it. She used to love that movie. The girls collaborated with me for this night and we kept it pretty simple.

Dinner was "Ethan's Spaghetti" and Garlic Bread

With cucumber slices inspired by Lizzie's makeover
(you all know what cucumber slices look like)
We had Italian Ice for dessert since they are in Rome in the Movie.
For Movie snacks we had L.M. Popcorn (popcorn with MM's in it) Tessa made the cute labels.

We had some "friends" join us for the movie. Pooh must be a Lizzie fan. He's wearing her Tshirt.

My dog joined them.
Jonnie got in the spirit by taping a Lizzie label (from the popcorn to his shirt)

And he cuddled with Pooh to watch the movie.

So that was our first movie night. Not as fancy as some I have seen, but a lot of fun.
Please excuse the quality of the pictures. I am having problems with my camera and was trying to use my phone.

Jenna was so into our last movie night that she insisted on planning our first "real" one. Since (as you can see from my ticker) our Disney trip is planned for SWW and Disney has bought Star Wars. She chose Star Wars.
Her menu was elaborately themed.

It reads:
NOT SO LONG AGO IN A LAND NOT SO FAR AWAY
The N Family Decided to Have a Star Wars Movie Night
Main Course:
*Whomp Rats on a Stick (Little Sausages)
*Skinny Yoda Legs (Green Beans)
*Whomp Swamp Sticks (Zucchini Stick)
*Death Stars and Cheese (Tomato's and Cheese)
*Jar Jar Binks Bits (Strawberry's and Cantaloupe)
*Build Your Own Lightsabers (Breadsticks with Nacho Cheese or Tomato Sauce)
Dessert:
*Cold Blooded Lightsabers (Ice Pops)
Movie Snacks:
Light and Dark Side Sticks (Pretzels with White or Milk Chocolate)
Drinks:
Yoda Punch (Lime Punch and Sprite)
MAY THE FOOD BE WITH YOU

She also got into the decorations.
Our Lightsaber "curtain"

Cantina Sign themed after the Cantina in one of the episodes (6? I think)

The little girls I babysit got into the act making signs that said "Ouch Lightsabers Hot. Don't Touch." and "I Love Yoda" but somehow I missed pictures of those.

Our Dinner

Everything was on a stick or shaped like a stick to resemble lightsabers.

We got so into making our light and Dark Side Sticks and decorating them with colored sprinkles that we forgot about our Dessert. :confused3 Oh well. Ice pops can't compete with chocolate covered pretzels, I guess.:thumbsup2
And we were so into them I forgot to take pictures, but they were cute and yummy! It was a good night and we can't wait for the next time. All the kids have ideas and can't wait for their turn.

Oh and I have a new "regular" cast member to introduce you to.
This is Paige:
Paige is the awesome, funny, opinionated, artsy, smart 16 year old that is now living with us. We have known her for years and are happy to have her with us.

GREAT ideas and so much fun!! Love seeing Jonnie cuddling and Paige looks like one of yours! SO excited for all of you!! Thanks for posting pics...and updating!

Judy, Hi! It's good to see you over here, but then I knew you wouldn't abandon me. Thank you for all your encouragement. You truly get it.
I loved the kids ideas too. Thank you for the great idea to have the kids plan them. I had been wanting to do them for awhile but wasn't sure if the kids would get into it, but getting to be in charge of a night really makes a difference in that. I am also incorporating life skills. They plan the menu, go shopping, have a budget they have to stick to and then have to implement their ideas. Of course they can delegate responsibilities but they need to make sure everything gets done. I figure they are learning important lessons while having fun and we are all getting a dose of Disney.:thumbsup2 Jonnie is cute. I love that those cuddly times aren't disappearing as he grows older.

What fun movie nights. I always loved Lizzy. Was sad when it went off the air. We have the movie at home. I don't think that JJ has ever seen it? Love the artwork on the bags too. The Star Wars movie night is right down my alley. Love the idea of the food all shaped as lightsabers! Creative menu item naming too.

I love the movie night pics!!! Looks like y'all had so much fun!!!!
Jennie, Thank you! Yes it was a lot of fun.

Tink, ya we loved Lizzie. The movie was even cuter than I remembered. Tessa did do a great job on the artwork. I figured the star wars night would be up you and JJ's alley.

Our bags are packed and we are leaving today. On our way to work on another wish. Can you geuss what were doing? Here's a hint.

Okay it's been ages since I started this trip report and I haven't gotten around to explaining the meaning behind our title. I'd say it's about time.
The idea for a year of wishes came to me this fall. You see our family has had a tough time medically this last couple years. The kids have been dealing with some pretty serious new illnesses and my husband has always had his health problems. Then last fall everything came to a head. My husband got very sick. We thought it was just the flu or something related to his normal issues but when it got bad enough that he was hospitalized he was given a scary diagnosis and a pretty grim prognosis. The kids really wanted to do something special for their dad and honestly we all needed a pick me up so we started coming up with ideas on how we could make not one but many of my husbands wishes come true. We didn't want to just sit around being depressed and waiting for something bad to happen and we really want to make more memories and spend as much time together as possible. So we morphed the idea of a bucket list into a year of wishes which looks like it might turn into a year and a half or even two years of wishes but hey everyone knows you can never have too many wishes right? Here is a list of the wishes we are working on so far. I welcome you along to see how many we can make come true and to see how many more we might add.

1. Meet Stan Lee
2. Get a complete set of signatures on a Stan Lee and Lou Ferrigno (The Original Hulk) poster.
3. Go camping (as much as possible and rough it as much as we can)
4. Go hunting
5. Go to a Chiefs game
6. Meet the Kansas City Chiefs Players and get some signatures
7. Take the kids to Mount Rushmore
8. Take the kids to see the Grand Canyon
9. See Niagra Falls
10. Play in a poker tournament
11. Go to as many zoos as possible
12. Spend a weekend at Hedricks Exotic Animal Farm
13. Get his own dog and get him trained as a service or companion animal
14. Go to a Star Wars Weekend at WDW

Also we did have a bonus wish come true before this PTR even started. John finally got his dream car. A bright red Ford F150

As you can see some of these wishes are big and some of them a kinda small but all are important and as you can imagine we are having a lot of fun trying to make them (and probably more) come true.

Thank you for sharing the wish list! I can't wait to hear the developments!

Okay so I've decided not to post wishes come true in any particular order. We have had a few happen already, but I think I'll start with last weekend.

I posted a guessing game not long ago asking where you thought we had gone last week. As a hint I posted the symbol of the Kansas City Chiefs, but we didn't go to a game. I was awakened early Friday morning by a vomiting child.:sick:Ugh what a way to start a wish day.:headache: He admitted to eating something he has a major intolerance to the night before so I knew he wasn't contagious but I still started worrying we wouldn't make it and even made plans for Jonnie to stay with grandma and grandpa if necessary. The thought of that broke my heart as this was a wish he really wanted to participate in. Thankfully he was feeling better by lunch time and by late afternoon we were on the road. :cheer2: We reached St. Joseph, MO two hours later and checked into our hotel. The hotel has a small water park and the kids eagerly went to check it out. After 45min I ushered the kids back to the room for dinner. Jonnie begged me to let him come back but he fell asleep before we had even started eating. Poor thing was wore out. It was for the best though as we had a long day ahead of us the next day.

The alarm went off at 6 am and we got up and moving and then headed down to breakfast. The room was filled with people wearing Chiefs gear. I had heard someone at the front desk telling a guest that every hotel in town was sold out so I wasn't surprised to see this outpouring of Chiefs fans. This was, after all, a big day. We were all headed out to the head quarters of the Kansas City Chiefs Training camp for their annual Family Fun Day. :cheer2: These guys were the first thing we saw when we got in the gates.

And these crowds

There were a few cheerleaders there to greet us

Once we finally made it through the crowds there were a lot of activities waiting for us.
Jonnie immediately jumped in line to get a balloon made. One of the ballon guys was really funny.

Jonnie ended up getting a balloon football.

The girls chose to get their faces painted.

Jonnie chose to play some of the footbal related games.

John posed for a picture

And Jenna found Ronald (much to Paige's dismay as she is afraid of clowns)
.
Then the kids heard of a way that they could win game tickets by being one of the first 250 kids to sign up to endure an hour and a half mock Chiefs practice. Jonnie was all for it as was Jenna. Tessa chose to do it just to get tickets for John. In her words "only making her dads wish come true could make her choose to sweat like that" :lmao:
Paige wasn't feeling well so she opted out. Jonnie decided to get ready for the practice by playing more games.

While the girls decided to relax on the field under an umbrella until practice. I don't have a picture of that. :rotfl2:
While the kids did that. John and I went looking for something he could get signatures on as there was supposed to be an autograph session. We bought a ball and went to get in line for that just in time to see the chiefs players come off the field and realize that the autograph session was more luck of the draw than anything. When I realized that John was unlikely to even get a single signature I went to ask if there were any other chances for signatures. As soon as the first staff member heard our story he called his boss J.T who promptly asked if we would be in town the next day. Yep, we were planning on swimming all day but we could change that if it would mean John got to meet some players. J.T told us where to go and who to ask for the next day and we went to watch the kids practice. The practice was kind of grueling but they all finished and actually enjoyed it Once the practice was over they were given tickets to the Chiefs vs 49er's game in the 300 (highest) section. After this long day we opted to go back to the hotel for some swimming before dinner.
Next up how did our special day go? and Did we make any wishes come true? Stay tuned to find out.
