Does anyone know how hard it is to add points? Our kids are getting older and want to do more/stay longer and we need to expand our points. Is there an advantage to adding points versus doing a whole new membership?

It's easy to add on points. Call your guide and tell the how many you want. You can buy as few as 25. It will be another contract but will be under the same membership. Seamless.

You can also buy a resale contract (much cheaper) and it would still be the same as above if it's titled exactly the same with the same Use Year, even if it's at a different resort.

The hardest part of DVC membership is not adding on points. :happytv:

Your guide will be happy to sell you more points and the processes is fairly painless, except to the wallet.

just to clarify, add-on pts that are part of the same membership can be combined at 11 months out if you buy the same home resort, or combined at 7 months out if you buy a different home resort.

it's not possible to combine pts from different home resorts at 11 months out.

We just added on a couple weeks ago during our trip. We called our guide and set up an appointment to meet with him (we also wanted to check out the VGF and Aulani rooms while there). We added on 50 points to our SSR contract and it was so easy. Once the contract was drawn up and everything was signed, the points were put into our account before we left, we just had to wait until after our closing date (which was yesterday) to bank our 2013 points that we received when we added on. I was able to bank the points online easily and am now waiting for my 7 month mark to book our next vacation :goodvibes.

It can be easy or difficult depending on what you want and how you do it. It can also vary a lot price wise. Whether it's worth doing resale depends on # of points and home resort. Assuming we're not talking about a very small number (25-50 say) or a home resort that's not truly available resale, usually resale is the cheapest and best option.

Whether you want to add on or buy a separate contract depends on circumstances. Unless you want to add people to the new contract that aren't on the current one or have a different UY targeted for a specific time of year, adding to the current master contract is usually the best and simplest. This can also be done resale in most situations.

One can make separate reservations that match up and one can transfer points from one to the other and use them together at the applicable 7 or 11 month window. Neither quite as simple but easily workable.

Technically true in it's purest form but I would submit there are ways to do this even for separate master contracts. Charles was stating it is not possible to combine points from different Home Resorts at 11 months. Are you suggesting that MS has allowed you to combine points from different resorts prior to 7 months?

At 7 months it is easy to combine points from different memberships without regard to Home Resort status by reserving some nights of the stay from one membership, the remaining nights from another membership and having MS link them together.

At 11 months, only Home Resort points could be used to make a reservation. If you have multiple memberships with the same Home Resort, MS will assist making a reservation at 11 months by combining points from those multiple memberships.

Thanks, sorry, I read it as combining from different master contracts, obviously I didn't read closely enough.
