Being new to this I have a question. We just put our deposit down this week and went with a 150 points to get our feet wet and make sure that this is as good as we think it will wind up being. In the future if we decide to add to it, but the VWL is sold out what do we do, and how would having points at two locations (being that we expect VWL to be sold out by then) work? I mean would it be advantageous to have two locations and be able to book them 11 months in advance at both, or do you just have that priority with only the add on points purchased at that location? Please explain this concept to me.:bounce:

hi and welcome to the board. you will only have the 11 month priority with the amount of points at that resort. your 150 points will give you the 11 month priority at vwl for that amount of points (also with banking and borrowing from that). if you add on at , say bcv, your 11 month priority for bcv will be limited to the amount of points you have at bcv. we originally purchased 210 points at bwv and added another 150 before they sold out last fall. i would add on at vwl, but the checkbook needs to recover. maybe they won't have such a huge price increase with bcv and we'll be able to add on there.

The 11 month priority will apply only to the points owned at that resort.

If a resort is sold out thru DVC, your only option is to purchase an add-on at another resort or look for a resale as an add-on. When VWL sells out, DVC will still be offering VB, HH (probably) and eventually BCV.

Ok.... we have been owners since '98 with 150 pts. at BWV. We have been looking to add on 150 pts. but we too are in the dilemma of buying at the new BCV or waiting and trying to buy resale at our Home resort.

What are the REAL benefits of owning two different locations. If we were to add on at BCV when they open that will allow us an 11 month window for booking, BUT that is only for the 150 pts. we own at that resort....correct?

or - does ownership give us an 11 month booking period for the entire number of points owned at either resort.

I am sure this question has been asked and answered a thousand times......

Ok....

So sorry, part of my question was answered above already. I apologize for that, but that still leaves the REAL benefits of two resorts...... any thoughts...?

Thanks again.

one more note.....

any recommendations on resale.....and do you find it hard to get your use year?

The 11 month priority is the best reason to own at other resorts. Another reason would be if a really good deal was available.

The Timeshare Store sponsors this site and has been used by many here.

Another broker mentioned often is A Timeshare Broker.

You won't usually have much choice with use year when buying resale, but you can specify that if it is imortant to you.

Good Luck!

I can only speak personally--we added on because we had originally planned to go to BWV every other year, so we bought 160 points (we have 3 kids and the oldest is only 9). Every other year it costs 306 pts. for a week in a 2 BR, so we will even have 14 left over to rent out perhaps. Now that we have 100 at VWL, we can do 5 days there on alternate years (200 points is a 2BR Sun-Thurs).
Also, we have more to bank/borrow so we can take our cruise in 2004. Since families of 5 are kind of forced to get the higher end accomodations, we need them!
Who knows, when I retire or we have grandkids, our needs might change and we might sell one of our contracts, but that is way off. And by that time points will cost so much we'll make our $ back anyhow!

As mentioned above, one "benefit" of owning points at two resorts is having the 11 month booking advantage at both resorts.

For example, let's say that you own 150 points a VWL and later purchase 150 points at BCV. Let's also assume that you need approximately 300 points to vacation in the season and unit size of your choice. By banking and borrowing, you can enjoy a vacation every year by alternating resorts. You would have the 11 month booking advantage each year. To elaborate further:

First year, stay at VWL. Borrow the second year's VWL points so that you have the 300 VWL points. Bank the BCV points into the following use year.

Second year, stay at BCV. Use current year points and the banked points. You have no VWL points left for this use year.

Third year, same as first.
Fourth year, same as second.

Etc.

In summary, many owners like more than one DVC resort and want the 11 month booking advantage. This is one way to do that.

Of course, it is possible that VWL will be available via resale when you are ready to add on. If not, and if BCV doesn't appeal to you, BWV, OKW, HHI and VB are all available via resale.

My wife and I originally purchased points at BWV & HH and we're very happy with our decision. Like the previous posts stated, banking and borrowing home resort points definitely gives you a better chance of getting what you need within the 11 month window!

Thank you for your posts.....

Keep them coming

Good point on alternating location year to year, hadn't really though about that, I was looking at it as only having a 7 month window if you were to combine points of the same use year but different resorts...
