Adding on points - question?

We submitted a contract and deposit for 50 points at VWL through a resale at $65 per point with 50 banked points. Original listing was $68, but seller accepted our $65 offer. We do not own any other DVC. I have read elsewhere on this site that it is acceptable to purchase less than 150 points via re-sale. (but not directly with Disney)

My question - After this is processed would Disney allow us to purchase another 50 or 100 points (directly with Disney) as an add-on if we don't already own 150 points?

We will never need anything bigger than a studio, always visit WDW in the off season, and might even go only once every two years. We wouldn't want or need to purchase another full 150 which would be 200 with our present 50, however I'm thinking the 50 by itself is much to low. Banking and going every two years we would have 100 points to work with. In the off season and avoiding the weekends we might still be O.K. most of the time. But at least another 50 points would be better.

I understand we would only have the 11month rule on our 50 points at VWL and the other 50/100 at Beach Club. But sounds like we could combine our points for 7 month reservations at other locations.

I suppose another option would be to see if another 50 to 100 VWL points might show up on re-sale with a use year close to the one we already bought. (small point contracts don't seem to come up very often).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/thoughts. Warm Regards Mike

That's a good question and probably one that only DVC will be able to answer definitively for you.

Since you will NOT own a master contract (150 or more points) they might not allow a direct add-on. It sure can't hurt to ask.

Good Luck!

Thanks Doc, I called DVC and did get an answer from Betty. It is possible to purchase less than 150 points via resale and it is possible then to purchase less than 150 points from Disney following the closing as an add-on. The master account would be, in my case, the first 50 point contract.

I found it interesting that VWL does still have some points available for sale, but because I live in California only certain buildings are listed and approved for California. There are less than 400 points available for sale for California. However, the rub is that with only 300+ left and I need to wait until November to close on my resale, they are likely to be gone by then. Beach Club Villas have not been approved for sale to California residents yet. Appears that California doesn't make this very easy.

I can still do re-sale which is probably the way I will go, after all at $65 a point verses $80 a point (even more after Dec) there is still a savings even after closing cost.

Best Regards, Mike

I find that answer very interesting.

You may have a longer wait to find a 50 pt contract with the same use year at a price you're willing to pay. Good part about it though is you can start now. I have seen some OKW for 50 and 60 pts at www.timesharebyresale.com. Aug use year.

Thanks for the link. I added it to my favorites along with three others. Will just watch them all. Not in a hurry. Appreciate the information. Havent heard anything about our resale, but the deposit check has cleared the bank, so assume it's working. Best Regards
