Adding days to a package?

I am trying to help out friends. They have a free dining package end of august, but want to start 4 days before. They were looking at just adding room only at the Riverside, but I said just stay at my resort.
Their concern is can they start their ticket in their package before. So can they use the tickets from their package for their room only part.

I'm wondering kind of the same thing, I think. We want to go 11/13-11/21. Free dining starts 11/15 (if we can get it). If we had to pay for a one day ticket for 11/14 alone (before the package started) that would be a lot more expensive I think..

We are doing this in November. We originally had a trip booked 11/12-11/18 at the Beach Club with 6 day park hoppers. When free dining came out we switched to a split stay with a room only reservation at Art of Animation from 11/12-11/15 and AKL 11/15-11/20 with free dining and 6 day park hoppers. We were told we can activate the tickets when we arrive, but will not be able to make advance Fastpass+ selections. So my understanding is you can do it, but you need two separate reservations and you will not be able to make advance Fastpass selections for the first part of your stay.

If their tickets are part of the package, they can activate them at the theme park earlier than the package start date. However, they will not be able to make FP+ selections until the ticket is activated, as stated previously. So that may be an issue for them. So the first day, they can make same-day FP+, and try to book the next 3 days.

You can use the tickets from your package up to 10 days before you check in for the package reservation.
