Adding a second day to 1-day 2-park ticket?

We're leaving tomorrow (!!!) for a WDW trip, and planning to visit Universal for probably one day, but maybe two. I know that in the past (years ago), you could add a second day to your one-day pass on the way out of the park, which seems like a good option for us since we're not sure we'll need a second day. Is that offer still available?

Also, is there any reason to purchase a 1-day 2-park ticket online in advance, aside from avoiding possible lines at the gate?

yes, that policy is still in place

upgrade to another day before you leave the park.

you can also upgrade to a 2 park, 1 day while you are there that day.

The biggest problem of waiting to purchase them at the gate is that you're going to have to stand in the ticket line. Purchasing them online and printing them at home or getting kiosk pick-up will save you time.
