What is the benefit of adding on points at a resort other than your home resort? My home resort is SSR, so I would think that I should only consider adding on 25 or 50 point blocks at SSR. Unless by adding on a 25 point block at BCV gets me the 11 month window, but I don't think that'd be the case. Can someone please straighten me out on this?

Yes, adding on at another resort would give you the 11-month window at that resort, BUT only for those add-on points. So if you purchased a 50 pt add-on at BCV, you could book up to 50 pts at the 11mo window. Or if you banked and borrowed those BCV points, you could use up to 150 BCV pts at the 11 month window.

Note in this case you could not use your SSR points to book at the BCV at the 11 mo window.

But I could book up to the total number of available points (SSR + BCV) at any resort at seven months, yes? Does it make sense to try to match up an add on to my February use year?

Having the same use year makes for easier bookeeping, but that's about it. We have both our master and add on contracts at the same resort with the same use year. It just makes it easier to follow.

Yes, you CAN use ANY of your points for ANY DVC location at 7 months from the check out date.

Hi Sheriff Woody,

You are correct. All points could be combined at 7 months to book anywhere. Personally, I think it makes sense to do the add on at your use year because it is a little easier with the points.
Also, IIRC, if you buy an add-on from Disney, they will only sell one in your use year. If you do a resale add-on, you can choose other use years. I might be wrong, though.

Yes, at the 7month window you could use the total number anywhere.

If you add-on direct with DVC then you would be required to have the same UY. IMO if you are planning to a small add-on at SSR, BCV, BWV, VWL then you might be better off buying direct. However, if you can find small resale with banked up points, then it might save you a few dollars. If you do purchase a resale with a different UY you would have 2 different contract numbers (and I believe 2 member numbers - though I could be wrong on that).

The majority of our points are at SSR, but we bought a small add on at VWL so we could book at 11 months every year for early December.
