Add ons shortly after initial purchase

This is odd (at least I think it is odd) that some of us are adding on so quickly. When we bought into DVC, I hadn't done ANY homework other than watch a video Disney sent about 5 years ago when I was first interested and daydream. So when our guide first said "150 points and visit every other year" I took him as the voice of experience. Actually we bought 250 thinking we might want to do some of the other things offered. Well, after reading the Dis Boards compulsively the past four months, I honestly realized it was "OK" to go yearly (that was an extravagence I hadn't considered). So we added on three months later (without having used a point!).

Are there any other folks that added on shortly after your initial purchase? How come? Sandie

We bought in Nov 2001 150 pts at WLV we decided it wasn't so we added 100 more points in Jan. Then when BCV came along we really wnated to buy there so we added on 150 points. All before we took our first trip home, that comes in 58 more days, I can't wait its been a very long wait to "go Home"

We bought in November, 2001 sight unseen and added on in January, 2002 sight unseen. Made our first trip home last summer for 3 weeks, staying at every DVC resort except BCV which opened while we were at WDW. No regrets for either buying or adding on.

I'm in the process of buying my first DVC at BWV (150pts) and I'm already considering doing an add on. Every other year sounds good but every year sounds great!!! I can't wait to close. Our first trip home will be Nov. 2003.:Pinkbounc

I added on at the BWV twice within 3 weeks of my initial purchase. The BWV was selling out, so this forced me into a "point-buying frenzy!" A few weeks later, I added on once more. (Those points were going, going, gone!)
;)
I recently added on at the BCV--I did this because I wanted to able to spend more time at WDW. I now plan on spending part of the winter there, 6 weeks total: 2 weeks in early Dec. and one month in Jan/Feb.

I, too, have no regrets regarding adding on. DVC has afforded me the opportunity to spend so much more time at WDW than I ever thought possible!

When we made our first purchase at BWV in Oct 2000, we bought 175 pts. We came home and immediatly (1.5 weeks later LOL) called and added on another 50pts!!! We have once again added on! This time 110pts at VWL in Feb. this year (15 months later than our original purchase), and I think we are done for now :) But, I know there is one more add on in our future! I need two even numbered sets of pts to give the kids IF we ever get too old to use them ourselves ;)

We bought two resale contracts at OKW for 430 pts total. The day those contracts closed we added on 170 BCV points.... then a month later we found a perfect BWV contract for 270 points....

So thats 870 points in a matter of months..... :)

Edited coz I forgot to say WHY..........

We bought in so heavy with the plans of treating our family and friends to WDW vacations....... This Christmas we are taking my BIL and family..... and in the summer of 2004 we are treating a whole slew of my May 1999 moms(online buddies) to rooms (18 in all)

We started with 230 at OKW in 1999, and added on 70 more there to give us 300 at OKW within 2 months. This year we added on 110 pts at VB in Jan, sight unseen. Then after going to VB in June, we seen that it was "awesome', so we added on 90 more to give us 200 VB points....to go along with our 300 OKW points.
We were fortunate enough to pay cash for all of the add-ons. So all we have is dues from now on. We like having the option of a DVC(OKW) on WDW property and 1 DVC (VB) ocean front. All have the same use yr to make things easier.

We bought 170 pts. sight unseen in Jan. 02 at WLV and added-on 50 more before prices went up in May. We figured out real quick that to go home at least once a year for a week we were going to need more pts.

We have seen WL from the monorail...does that count as we saw it, probably not officially. Anyway, we are looking forward to our 1st trip home to WLV in mid Dec. We cant wait!!!

We bought 270 points at the BCVs over Easter this year when we were down there. We went "home" in July and stayed in a 2 bedroom with friends. When we got home we realized we were now "spoiled" and would always want to stay in at least a one bedroom for part of our stays. Therefore we just completed a 50 point add on. I "think" we are done buying points for awhile, or at least until the new DVC comes on line.

DVC/BCV 2002

hi, we bought on our first trip in april, 210 at BCV, and we just returned from OKW yesterday, and i called our guide and got 140 at VWL. we went and checked out the VWL during our stay and fell in love with the resort, so when i called he said we were in luck that they had 3500 points available for our april use year so we jumped on 140 points before they got gone and we could not be any happier. i am truly addicted to DVC and DISNEY and i am just blessed to have a wonderful hubby that feels the same way. so i think that we have enough points to do for awhile. i am just so happy that we are able to do this for ourselves and our family that may not have been able to experience DISNEY if it had not have been for us.

We first bought 200 at VWL in December 2000. We added on another 70 in July 2001.

Last Dec we joined DVC VWL 300pts - thought this would be more than enough - Well less than 1 yr later we have bought an OKW resale of 200pts - not so much because we needed more points but because I love OKW so much and now every other year we will have enough extra/banked points to bring some of our extended family with us!:D

We purchased 230 initially at BWV in May 2000. I immediately booked a vacation for Dec 2000 but could only get in at OKW. In Oct. 2000 my DH took a part time position at the Disney Store and found out quickly that he got a discount on any DVC purchase. It was also about this time that the BWV was about to sell out so we added on in Nov 2000 before we ever had a trip "home". In April of this year we added on at the BCV and are actually thinking of adding on again before years end. It is a truly magical way of vacationing.

This July I started the process of buying an OKW resale of 70 pts (which no one on this board thought would go through mind you on less than 150 pts when I wasn't a member yet.) In Aug, my wife and I went down for a quick weekend and stayed at CBR and had many problems there and decided we would NEVER stay at a "moderate" again. So we bought 150 at BCV before the OKW resale closed. It finally closed Sept 8th, my wife's birthday!! I'm not certain which one is actually considered an add on though:D ?

I'm beginning to think that 220 pts isn't enough to satisfy my fix either. Since July, I've been three times and have two more trips planned this year. It's then six months until my next trip and I don't think I can make it...

In March of 2002 we bought 232 points at OKW. Imagine my dh's surprise (shock) when I asked for a small BCV addon a week after closing.:D It took some convincing (he was a little reluctant to join in the first place) but we added on 70 points at BCV in May. I wanted to beat the price increase and ensure we could stay at BCV every 3 years. After our first visit there in Aug he said he was glad we did the add on (and I am too). We can't wait for our first visit to OKW for Thanksgiving!

OK- I originally wanted to purchase 200 total points at BCV -- it took way too long for BCV to be available to NY'ers and I got impatient and looked into resales -- had a hard time getting my own financing -- I then came into enough money unexpectedly to purchase a small resale -- not 200 or so points like I originally wanted -- I found a resale at BWV for exactly 100 points and figured let me buy that and when BCV becomes availbale OR when I go down in Oct I will purchase the additional 100 points at that time whichever comes first -- well, literally the day after I sent my deposit and paperwork overnight to the Timeshare Store for the BWV resale, my guide called to tell me BCV was now available to NY'ers -- I told him I would call him when I was ready to purchase -- my deed for BWV was recorded 9/8/02 and I called and purchased the additional 100 points I wanted from BCV on 9/24/02 and though it may seem like a very small amount it works out perfect for me and my husband. I am just so happy to finally be a member after thinking about it for like 5 years!!

We bought 200 at BCV this past July. I wanted 150 but DH talked me into 200. Well, after booking a cruise for next year and having to borrow from 2004, plus the price at BCV going up in Dec., we are in the process of adding on another 100 pts at BCV. We love Epcot and know that once this resort is sold out (it is over 50% sold out already) we will regret not adding on there.. Plus we love the flexibility the additional points give you.

This thread is a hoot. I thought I was the only one who right from the get-go couldn't be satisfied with the initial point purchase. I was sort of blaming it on these boards for egging me on and also for pointing out all these don't miss attractions like the Candlelight thing. I HONESTLY thought only pretty rich goofy people went to WDW more than once every other year. I now know that you just need to be a little goofy and have a lot of points. Sandie

We had the tour while at Disney, and signed on the dotted line for 150 points. Before we left, we had our contract rewritten to add-on an additional 25 points. 6 months after our initial purchase we did an add-on and about 3 months ago we closed on a resale contract. All are VWL points. We are done for a couple years! Maybe................................
