Hello All,

My wife and I own at akv with September use year. We recently used contract to take broader family on trip and now my parents are interested in buying into dvc. Their plan would be to have them, myself, and my sister on the contract. I know for add on general wisdom is to keep single use year but since there will be different members for each contract I wasn’t sure if any benefit from that (e.g. would I be able to book with both contracts under single log in on my account but others would only see one contract). Any information or experiences around doing this would be greatly appreciated.

you can't have an "add on" with different owners on the title.

that is always 2 separate memberships.

you can try to transfer pts between the contracts or book 2 reservations and have MS link them but there's no need to worry about getting the exact same UY.

You will see any contract you are owner on under your DVC account on the website, It will show as a different membership.

Your parents and sister will each see the one they are on. Since different owners are different memberships, it doesn’t really matter if the UY matches or not because it is still treated the same as if you and your wife had different UYs.

So, even if you bought the same resort and same UY, you’d still only be able to use points from that contract with your own points by transferring the points between the two.

If the two contracts are not titled exactly the same (so same owners on both), you will end up with two memberships. Won't matter if they have the same use year or not.

Their plan would be to have them, myself, and my sister on the contract.

This is property ownership. I would not be entering into this kind of partnership with someone I was not married to.

There are other ways to do this, like trusts or companies, to get everyone a Blue Card. I would absolutely talk to a lawyer before I put an asset this large in such a complicated ownership structure. This could be a nightmare with probate, divorce, bankruptcy, just wanting to sell, a million other scenarios.

Any difference in the way it is titled from another contract will be a completely different membership number.

I did something like this. We bought AKV points (my husband and I) and then we decided to buy a joint contract with my mom and a couple of siblings at Riviera.

The Riviera contract has the same use year as my AKV contract but it's a totally different membership number. It DID help to buy the Riviera contract with my name on it because I was entitled to the member discount on the points instead of just the "new owners" discount. This saved me $5/point.

Having the same use year is a benefit to me because everything will have the same banking/borrowing deadlines, but I do have to transfer points to use them together.
