Hello fellow DVC'ers I need your help and advice.

I currently own 150 pts at SSR with a February use year. I bought this over 10 years ago so I am already grandfathered in with the recent changes that were made with purchasing resales.

What I'm trying to decide is if I should buy another say 150pts at SSR and in the same use year or should I purchase at another resort? What are the pros and cons of all the different scenarios?

I understand if I purchased in a different use year they would end up being 2 different contacts and member ID's is that correct? Seems like that would be more difficult to manage.

What are the benefits for purchasing the same use year but at a different resort?
What are the benefits for purchasing the same use year at the same home resort?
Could they be combined under the same member ID login or does it depend on if it's at the same home resort?

If I purchase another 150 at SSR with a Feb use year as well would the 2 contacts be combined into 1 300pt contract or would they remain as 2 - 150pt contacts, just merged under the same member ID? (curious about this because if I were to ever resale)

curious to hear as well as your opinions on what you would do. thanks everyone!

After 10 years you should have an idea of how you use your membership and if you have a favorite resort that you can't book at 7 months. Owning a different resort and booking there at 11 months is the only reason to buy another resort. Keeping one UY is easier, your contracts stay separate 150 + 150, you pick which points to use when booking a reservation.

thanks... so if I have 2 contacts both at 150 for SSR and both use year February... I could manage both of them under 1 member ID online and be able to use 300 points for 1 reservation by transferring the points from 1 to the other?

You don't transfer, just pick contract #1, apply the 150 points, then pick contract #2 and use the required points to complete the booking.

1- the contracts can be combined into one membership - it makes it easier to pool points together at the 7 month window
2- the contracts can be combined into one membership - it makes it easier to pool points together at the 11 month window
3- doesn't matter if it's the same resort

if they are under the same UY and combined into one membership, you would never transfer pts to yourself. it's only when you have 2 separate UYs and therefore 2 separate memberships where you would have to use up transfers to be able to pool pts.

when the contracts are combined under one membership, they operate as 1 contract (at 7 months for different resorts, or at 11 months out for the same home resort). but they never actually combine the actual DVC contracts - so you'd still have 2 150 pt contracts - you can always will or sell them separately (only Disney can actually merge 2 separate contracts together when they foreclose or ROFR and want to resell).

Unless you have a specific need for a different UY or to have the title differently, I would keep the same UY even if more expensive. As for home resort, it depends how you'd use it. SSR will be cheaper but you'll have more options if you buy something that gives you options you don't have now, say VGF, AKV, BWV or even the new CC. If a second master is advantageous to you AND you decide to do a different home resort, chose the best UY for how you'll use that contract even if a different UY.

This is similar to my question and what the DVC rep was telling me when we met.

He mentioned keeping the same use year is easier.

So, currently I own SSR with Dec use year.
If I added AKV, WL or BLT (three I'm considering now) with Dec use year, I would have two contracts, but one membership ID whereas if I added say February use year, it would be two contracts and two memberships?
