Alrighty . . . Addonitis is a horrible ailment, and it's a shame that there's no cure for it. ;) So, since I've gotta deal with this forever, help me understand it a bit better.

1. Can you buy 'add-on' through Disney if you originally bought resale, and what if you bought less than their minimum points required?

2. If I buy add-on through Disney, it's technically part of my original deed; but if I buy a small contract resale, it's not actually an add-on, so it has its own use-year . . . right!?!

DVC ownership is without regard to the number of points owned, so initial resale purchases of less than 160 points may still purchase an add-on.

Technically, an add-on can only be purchased directly from DVC and the contract will have the same Use Year, contract number and membership number as the original master contract (without regard to the number of points in that intial purchase). If another resale is purchased, it will usually be a separate contract (with it's own membership number) - except for those occasions where the Use Year matches the original contract and where DVC recognizes the same names on the deed prior to the deed being recorded. Add-ons will be denoted by a different suffix from the master contract (XXX.001, XXX.002, XXX.003).

Resale purchases will usually retain the original contract number for when the contract was originally purchased.

If you add on via Disney, you will get the same UY. The contract number will have a ".1" at the end. We are at ".9"

If you bought less than Disney considers it's minimum, that doesn't change things, they will still sell you a minimum 25 points for cash or 50 points if you finance.

If you buy a resale that has the same UY, you can still have Disney add the
".1" to your original contract number. But you have to notify your broker that you have a contract and you want this one added into that mix. That's only possible with the same UY. We have added through resale twice and those are incorporated into our original number.

Just wanted to clarify that an add-on at a different resort but the same use year can still be a part of the same membership. This helps to avoid having to transfer points between contracts for a reservation (only 1 transfer/year allowed) and also helps when calculating percentages for the banking window guidelines.
