Add-on ... pros / cons buying over the phone / in WDW?

For our planned small add-on, is there any advantage / disadvantage to waiting until we are in WDW later in the year to buy while we are there? We want a sold-out resort, so it may not even be possible to purchase on the spot if there are no points available.

I was going to just pick up the phone and add on in the same way as our initial purchase, but wondered if there would be any advantage to be gained by waiting to do it in person.

Any thoughts?

I've always done my add-ons - all five of them - by email request to my guide and completed the paperwork sent by Fed-Ex, apart from one time, where we happened to be visiting at the time the points were available. Can't think of any advantage or disadvantage of either really. I suppose if you hang on until you go, maybe a couple of months fewer dues on those points?

If it's VB you are adding, why don't you ring to check availability (good I would guess) and then add on when out there? Unless you are wanting the points for your next trip that is.

I don't think there is any advantage being there and if you are looking to add on at a sold out resort the sooner you are in the system the quicker you'll get the points.

I've checked with our guide and there are points available

He's gone on vacation for a week or so, so it gives us a bit more time to decide what we want - then I think I'll do it by phone / email (gotta love the Fed-Ex 'parcel' ) rather than tie up time in WDW if there's no advantage to doing it that way.

What is your use year? If it is coming up before you visit you may get an extra years points if you add-on now.

DVC have raised there prices once this year but they could go up again without warning, however hanging on will mean lower maintenance fees for this year.

Our UY is March, so I had planned to try to leave buying until a bit nearer March in order to maximise the benefit of 2007 points without maintenance fees. However, on such a small number of points it's not going to make a huge difference in fees, but I would worry that there might be no 2007 points coming my way if I leave it too late in my UY (I understand this has happened to some add-ons).

I think I'd rather hedge against a possible rise in points price buy buying sooner, too

we have just done an add-on. one of the reasons we did it now was because of the $ rate being so high. we asked if we could get the same use year (dec) which out guide got for us.
