Hello to all my fellow DVC family! Like many of you, I have add on ides! BUT I have not acted on it...YET! I joined the DVC family about 10 years ago and I currently have two direct DVC contracts. 160 at Animal Kingdom and 100 at Aulani. Both are amazing locations! I just had my first child and he is already a Disney baby. I know DVC will be in his future. Since I already have two direct contracts with DVC, if I add on it will be on the resale market. I'm thinking either the Polynesian or at Wilderness Lodge. So what's holding me back???

1. The sticker shock. - Even with the reduced price of resale it still costs as much as a car.
2. The maintenance costs. - Once I get over the total price of the contract (which goes away after it's paid off) there is ALWAYS going to be the $6 to $8 per point maintenance costs to keep it going.

Currently I have 260 points a year and both contracts come in on the same date every December 01 which is nice because I don't have to keep track of any other dates. My 260 points cost about $160 a month or $1920 a year. If I added an additional 150 points that would increase an additional $1120 a year. And it just keeps going up and up the more and more you add on. How do people manage this? I know the easy answer is either you can afford this commitment or you can't.

BUT are there any other options or techniques that some of my experienced DVC members that have added on to their contracts have that can give me as to some insight to adding on and maintaining DVC in the future?

Thanks ya'll and have a magical day!! *O*

But regarding your question there is no special sauce to adding on. It's nothing more than buying more contracts. One can either afford the maintenance fees or not.

You are correct, the more points you have, the more maintenance fees you need to pay annually. It's an annual expense that needs to be dealt with just like any other. We have the Disney Visa that gives us 2% rewards, and we use that each year to pay down the fees. The rest can be paid with Disney Gift Cards which can be had for roughly a 5% discount.

I always keep track of how much I have laid out for DVC, and counter that with how much I would have spent on my rooms if I had gone through David's Rentals. It's just an affirmation that I made the right choice in shelling out up front!

Sticker shock includes the purchase price and the increased dues during your ownership. A few years ago I took a look at our BCV contract as if we will keep it full term. The purchase price, dues and vacations will cost us over $300,000. Talk about shock! :scared1:

After we got over it we bought some additional contracts. :confused3

$300K?!? OMG you must have a lot of points.

Bill is on this great payment plan that lets you pay-as-you-go over 40+ years. Makes it seem not so bad.

:confused3 YOLO

So I own 260 points. That means throughout the life of the contract I would be showing out over $300,000?

My guess is that 300k was future dollars, not 2019 dollars. In current dollars (increasing dues at 4% and discounting at 2%, target long term inflation rate) my contract total cost comes to about 156k (MF and purchase) for CCV 200 points and using realized year dollars I get 260k. The key point is because of inflation a dollar today is worth more than a dollar in 10, 20, etc years.

$156K wow! When you get up into these numbers one could just purchase a vacation home in the Orlando area. Haha
On a completely separate note...how do I add a profile pic to my account on here?

You could but that would be the purchase price and not include taxes, utilities, and maintenance all of which the above number does include. You would also have to have all 156k today to not include any financing costs.

As for a profile pic click your name in the upper right corner and click on avatar.
